About Our Opportunity
Working within the mission, vision, values, and person-centred philosophy of the Agency, the Payroll and Benefits Specialist is responsible for the efficient and accurate administration of payroll, employee benefits, pension processes, and related systems operations.
Working collaboratively across Finance and Human Resources, the role leads payroll processing, benefits and pension administration, leave coordination, system optimization, reporting, compliance, and continuous process improvement initiatives. The Payroll and Benefits Specialist plays a key role in supporting integrated people systems and ensuring payroll and benefit practices align with Agency policies, legislative requirements, and best practices. The role works with team members in Finance and HR, and supports leaders and staff across all programs. It also works with external group benefit and pension providers extensively. The role supports ongoing modernization initiatives, including payroll and HRIS enhancements, automation opportunities, streamlining processes, and cross-functional operational improvements.

Work Hours: 35 hours/ week; Monday- Friday
Salary: MGS 5 Step 1 $41.02/ hour
Location: 1638 East Broadway, Vancouver, BC, with a possibility of working in a hybrid environment

What do you need to Succeed?
Education, Training, Experience
- Diploma or degree in Payroll, Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation preferred, or in progress
- Minimum 5 years of progressive payroll administration experience
- Experience administering benefits and pension programs preferred
- Experience working with integrated payroll and HRIS systems
- Experience supporting process improvement and systems implementation initiatives is considered an asset
- Experience with HRIS/payroll system conversions and modernization initiatives is considered an asset
- Experience in the non-profit, healthcare, or social services sector is considered an asset
Role Qualifications and Skills include, but are not limited to
- Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, statutory remittances, payroll practices, and benefits administration
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
- Experience with ADP or comparable payroll systems is considered an asset
- Experience with HRIS/payroll system conversions and modernization initiatives is considered an asset
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments in a shared-services environment
- Self-directed and motivated
