Job Description

Job Summary: 

As part of the Special Education team, the incumbent provides practitioner level service to students who have physical disabilities or movement challenges that impact their ability to succeed in the school environment.
 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide a continuum of service and support to students and personnel under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
  • Evaluate services to assist the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team with identifying the presence of performance deficits resulting from a disability and determine if there is an educational need for physical therapy services.
  • Conducts comprehensive assessments of students' gross motor skills, gait, balance, and functional mobility within the school environment.
  • As part of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team develop measurable, educationally relevant goals for inclusion in the IEP.
  • Design, implement and monitor outcome-driving intervention directly to the child, or on behalf of the child.
  • Provide individual or group therapy sessions focused on improving a student's ability to navigate the classroom, playground, and cafeteria.
  • Collaborate with teachers, paraprofessionals, and parents to implement strategies, exercise programs, and ergonomic adjustments.
  • Assess the need for and maintain assistive devices such as gait trainers, standers, and specialized seating. Works with department leadership to order additional devices needed for student success.
  • Services are designed to ensure students have equal access to all aspects of the school day and support student participation and success in general education.
  • Participate on collaborative teams, in staff meetings, and professional development activities.
  • Maintain accurate and orderly monthly therapy plans and schedule of therapeutic services assuring confidentiality as required by state and federal law, in order to support monthly School-Based ACCESS/Medicaid Medical Billing for students.
  • Performs other related duties under the direction of the Special Education Department administration and other supervisors.


Qualifications: 

  • PA Physical Therapy Licensure
  • Professional Doctorate in Physical Therapy
  • Pediatric experience and/or school-based experience preferred
  • Other education/experience as accepted by the school board and administration
