The Superintendent invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the position of Per Diem Personal Aide at various school locations.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
1. Must be a holder of a high school diploma or GED
2. Two (2) years of experience working with children
BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide instructional, behavioral or daily living support under the direct supervision of a teacher.
2. Provide instructional, behavioral, or physical assistance to students individually or in small groups at the direction of the teacher to reinforce and follow up instruction.
3. Assist with all instructional and non-instructional tasks as assigned by the teacher within the school environment and on field trips.
4. Assist with the preparation of all materials as indicated in the IEP.
5. Operate and or assist in the use of student mobility devices such as, but not limited to, walker, wheelchair, braces, canes, etc.
6. Assist student(s) with basic needs such as feeding and personal hygiene not limited to toileting.
7. Maintain and provide daily/weekly activity logs for your assigned student(s) to teacher.
8. Inform teacher of student(s) actions are communicated to appropriate staff such as teachers and administrators.
9. Implement and maintain student(s) specific behavior, medical, emergency, or crisis plans.
10. Assist in the maintenance of classroom discipline in accordance with established policy and procedures.
11. Adapt to the student's mode of communication as necessary for instructional purposes, (e.g. iPad, Proloquo, augmentative device, etc.).
12. Assist in the implementation of therapy programs developed by speech and language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and other support staff, as needed.
13. Use computers and/or electronic equipment to fulfill job functions.
14. Serve as a role model for students and staff in demonstrating positive attitudes, appropriate attire and grooming, and effective work ethic.
15. Participate in appropriate in-services and attend required meetings.
16. Maintain confidentiality of student(s) records and information.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
1. Knowledge of teaching and school problems, practices, and procedures as they affect children.
2. Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
3. Ability to work with a variety of people.
4. Ability to establish and maintain accurate records and files.
5. Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
6. Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.

SALARY, EMPLOYMENT PERIOD AND UNION AFFILIATION
1. Salary: $17.37 per hour
2. Employment Period: Ten (10) Months (As needed)
3. Union Affiliation: Newark Teachers Union
