Job Description

POSITION: SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER

CLOSING DATE: Until Filled

 

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

 

SALARY RANGE: Starting $50,050 DOE

*Position is funded by and serves the requirements of the School Safety Program-ESSER (SSP-ESSER)

program

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES: Under general supervision and work direction of School Principal and District Administration should be knowledgeable in the role and duty of a social worker, child development, learning theory, and special education procedures and services.

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: (Work assignments may vary depending on the School’s needs and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by the supervisor.)

 

· Provides short-term individual counseling and small group counseling to students (i.e. maintains professional documentation, facilitates referrals to appropriate agencies, responds to request for counseling in a timely manner)

· Conduct school wide needs assessment to identify programing, groups and individuals in need of additional support.

· Provide direct social work assistance to children and their families (i.e. is available to meet with parents and school staff as to determine student/family needs, make contacts with appropriate agencies/resources to address needs, follows through with parents and/or agencies to ensure services received, maintains documentation of services provided for students/families)

· Assist in implementing site level educational programs and professional development for school personnel

· Identify cultural, ethnic, financial, physical and emotional challenges which might be negatively impacting student’s success and provide support to mitigate barriers

· Active member of school/district assigned subcommittees and crisis response team

· Participate in department planning, and trainings regarding school related issues

· Implement evidence informed, prevention programs and practices that teach positive behaviors, promote social emotional development, and ensure school climates conducive to learning.

· Consult with school personnel regarding problems affecting students’ academic progress, behavior, and personal well-being as well as provide appropriate intervention and follow up

· Provide direct services to students to address mental health concerns, conflict resolution, anger management and coping skills

· Continue professional growth to maintain knowledge of skills related to job functions and timely topics

· Attend required SSP-ESSER program training and conduct required program activities, including implementation of social emotional learning strategies

· Complies with State statutes, Board policies, and administrative procedures and implement responsibilities as recommended by the School Social Workers Association of America

· Attend and participate in meetings which may occur beyond the staffs normally scheduled work day

· Perform other related duties as assigned

· Perform all duties in a safe and prudent manner as assigned by the School Principal and District Administration.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

· Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) desired or equivalent professional social work degree from an accredited school, or

· Arizona Standard School Social Worker Certificate

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Knowledge of school, district and community resources available for students and families

· One year of successful social work experience or one year of field instruction in a school system, or six semester hours of acceptable coursework

· Demonstrate knowledge of the Social Work Code of Ethics and School Social Work Standards and sensitivity to diverse cultures

· Arizona State School Social Work Certification and/or Arizona Social Work License

· Bilingual in Spanish.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS UPON HIRE:

· Possession or ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver’s license;

· Required to pass a fingerprint clearance at Pima County Juvenile Detention Center and Pima County Adult Detention Center.
