Job Description

Job Title: Truancy Case Manager
Salary Range: $46,668-$86,131 (Commensurate with Experience)
Supervisor: Assistant Superintendent of Student Services
Job Classification: Non-Exempt
Contract Length: 10.5 months (210 contract days)

Job Summary
The Truancy Case Manager is responsible for The truancy officer provides assistance in interpreting and enforcing compulsory attendance laws and resolving truancy, excessive absences, and tardiness problems. Serve as district liaison to parents, law enforcement agencies, and court personnel. Assist with required office duties as needed. Performs related duties as assigned. 

Essential Job Functions

  • Monitors daily attendance of truant students and sends out correspondence, makes telephone calls and home visits to students and parents.
  • Develops Truancy Intervention Plans and monitors progress of identified students.
  • Conducts truancy and delinquency prevention groups at assigned schools.
  • Maintains accurate records regarding contacts and program activities.
  • Files CHINS and Neglect Petitions as needed and prepares written reports for court hearings.
  • Represent the school division in agency meetings and court hearings.
  • Performs other related duties as requested

Job Specifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required)

  • Demonstrated experience working with at-risk or underserved populations, preferably in a school, social work, or community outreach setting.
  • Experience in decision making, program analysis, and conflict resolution and program management.
  • Knowledge and a clear understanding of state laws and regulations related to student residency and the McKinney-Vento Act.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, investigative, and data management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and student information systems (e.g.PowerSchool).
  • Ability to develop, implement and monitor programmatic goals.
  • The Truancy Case Manager should have in-depth knowledge of Virginia laws and school policy with regard to school attendance, truancy and children in need of services/supervision


Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's Degree with major in Social Work, Sociology, or Juvenile Justice

Experience: Minimum of two years professional experience in working with youth and parents is preferred.

Certification: Must have valid Virginia driver's license.
