Job Description

POSITION: Safety Town Support Staff / Substitute Support Staff

 

LOCATION: P-CCS Community Education Department

 

 JOB SUMMARY:

 

Assist with leading 4-6 year olds through a small group learning structure, which covers various safety topics & activities during a week-long indoor and outdoor camp. 

Seasonal Position - Camp runs for multiple sessions between 6/22 and 7/31/26. Additional meetings for training, prep and tear-down just prior to and after camp dates. Looking for weekly staff to work all weeks, as well as staff who cannot commit to entire term that would instead like to be "on-call" as a back-up.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. High school graduate with prior experience working with school-aged children. Those who are still attending high school (incoming junior or senior, 16 years or older) will also be considered if they have ample experience working with youth.
  2. Good organizational and communication skills.
  3. Good attendance record.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Function under the supervision of the Safety Town Coordinator.
  2. Oversee a small group of participants for the duration of the week-long camp.
  3. Introduce safety concepts through a variety of interactive activities, both indoors and outdoors.
  4. Provide a safe, nurturing environment for participants.
  5. Establish good rapport with other staff, parents, and students enrolled in the program.
  6. Help oversee the arrival and dismissal of children.
  7. Assist with the preparation of materials, organization of centers, and end of day clean-up.
  8. Follow established district health and safety protocols.
  9. Bending, lifting and overhead work required.
  10. Performs other tasks as assigned by the Safety Town Coordinator / Community Education.

 REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Community Education

 

 

 RATE OF PAY: $16.04-18.21 per hour

 

 HOURS: Staff training and set-up week of June 15th � Up to 8 hours

 

 

Weekly program hours between 6/22 and 7/31 (no camp week 6/29): 

Mon-Fri, 8:45am-12:15pm, plus additional material prep time as needed

 

Possible tear-down time in early August � Up to 6 hours

 

There will be 4-5 week-long camp sessions over the summer. Multiple positions will be filled where staff will work all weeks (estimated 75-100 hours). However, additional roles will also be filled for those who would like to serve as a back-up and/or only work during weeks where additional assistance is required.

Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs such as boxes of books. The employee is directly responsible for safety, well-being, or work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

 

Upon recommendation for employment, Section 1230g, as amended, of the Revised School Code requires all school employees to be electronically finger printed for the purpose of undergoing a criminal history background check. The fingerprinting is conducted by a third party and is at the expense of the applicant. Cost for fingerprinting is approximately $70.00 and applies to Safety Town staff who will be 19 years or older as of June 15, 2025.
