Job Description

POSITION: Speech and Language Pathologist - Extended School Year (ESY)

ESY DATES: June 30, 2026 to July 30, 2026, plus one setup day 

This is a three-day-per week position. 

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 4 hours per day

Preparation occurs before and after the student's scheduled times, each day.

 

*Students qualifying for ESY need consistency and limited transitions; therefore, it is expected that you plan to work all 15 days. Exceptions for illness may occur.

 

LOCATION: Early Childhood &Elementary � Dodson 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

Secondary Program � TBD 7:30 a.m.� 11:30 a.m.

 

Early Childhood & Elementary Student hours are 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. 

Secondary Student hours are 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

ESY is typically for students who are highly impacted by their disability. Students who qualify for ESY will be attending our Extended School Year Services. Students from Early Childhood through postsecondary may qualify. Students will work on IEP goals, communication, behavior, social, and sensory skills in ESY. Typically, students who qualify for ESY have significant academic, speech, social, sensory and behavioral needs. The Speech and Language Pathologist will be working with students on the Autism Spectrum, Cognitive Impairments, or other special education eligibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid Michigan teaching certificate preferred.
  2. SB endorsement and/or Clinical Competence Certificate required.
  3. Related academic endorsements preferred.
  4. Ability to motivate & engage students.
  5. Effective communication skills at all levels.
  6. Ability to differentiate instruction.
  7. Ability to document data on student goals and objectives.
  8. Crisis Prevention Institute Trained.
  9. Appropriate technology background to integrate with instruction.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Provides Speech services as outlined in the IEP and maintain detailed service logs.
  2. Consults with teachers, paraprofessionals, and parents as necessary.
  3. Provides training as necessary to support carryover/generalization of skills.
  4. Completes comprehensive written reports, records, and progress reports on students in a clear and meaningful manner.
  5. Records and submits all data relevant to the School-Based Medicaid Reimbursement program.
  6. Other duties as assigned.

SALARY: Internal � Currently hourly rate or $45.00 per hour; whichever is higher.

External $45.00 per hour - Non-union position; no benefits offered.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit. Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs such as boxes of books. The employee is directly responsible for safety, well-being, or work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Upon recommendation for employment, Section 1230g, as amended, of the Revised School Code requires all school employees to be electronically finger printed for the purpose of undergoing a criminal history background check. The fingerprinting is conducted by a third party and is at the expense of the applicant. Cost for fingerprinting is approximately $70.00.
