Job Description

Job Title: 26/27 Counselor Pool - Secondary

Reports to: Principal 

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Valid teacher certification
  • Master's Degree in Counseling and Texas School Counseling Certification

 

Special Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to students, parents, and district staff.
  • Knowledgeable about college admission and testing requirements
  • Knowledgeable about Financial Aid, including FAFSA and TAFSA
  • Knowledgeable of Career and Military preparation
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to use the district's student management systems and technology platforms 

 

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

Counseling and Guidance

  1. Coordinate campus Financial Aid initiatives, including parents' nights and FAFSA completion assistance and tracking
  2. Coordinate Spring Campus Decision Day to showcase senior students and their postsecondary or military plans
  3. Assist with the development of campus CCMR documents and tracking
  4. Assist teachers in the delivery of CCMR-related curriculum
  5. Guide individuals and groups of students to develop education plans and support career awareness
  6. Educate the school staff, parents, and community about CCMR Readiness
  7. Maintain confidentiality of student records
  8. Attend professional development related to CCMR
  9. Plan school guidance activities to ensure that they meet the identified needs, priorities, and district objectives
  10. Track college acceptances
  11. Manage scholarships: including posting, advertising, assisting students with applications, and tracking
  12. Serve as the point of contact for college and university representatives for campus visits and college fairs
  13. Serve as the point of contact for community workforce members for career fair and campus visits
  14. Organize and plan college and career experiences for students
  15. Assist with the development of a campus CCMR Educational Program for grades 9-12
  16. Plan and provide college and career based enrichments and support programs
  17. Coordinate CCMR PEIMS Data Entry 

 

Consultation

  1. Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant people to enhance their work with students
  2. Maintain a communication system that effectively collects and disseminates information to other professionals as appropriate
  3. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with other school professionals and community resources

 

Programmatic and Assessment Responsibilities

  1. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, SBOE, and board policy.
  2. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations
  3. Administer and interpret result of Interest Inventories and CCMR-related assessments

  1. Communicate effectively with students, staff, parents and the community
  2. Demonstrate high expectations for students
  3. Work collaboratively with others to support the district vision, mission, and goals
  4. Work collaboratively with administrators as a part of the campus leadership team
  5. Maintain a professional workspace

 

Policy, Reports, and Law

  1. Support the goals and objectives of the district, campus, and counseling department
  2. Adhere to state and district standards, policies, regulations, and procedures
  3. Follow current professional standards of competence and practice
  4. Follow ethical standards for school counselors, including confidentiality

 

Other

  1. Perform other duties as assigned

 

 

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals.

Posture: Frequent sitting and standing; occasional bending/stooping, pushing,/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching

Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); occasional physical restraint of students to control behavior

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather), exposure to noise; occasional districtwide and statewide travel

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

 

 

Other Information: 

The District contributes $330 monthly to the cost of the employee-only health insurance, which is $105 more than the state-required amount of $225/month. All employees in this position receive free treatment at any Next Level Urgent Care.

 

 

Position Type: Full-Time

Contract/Days: 11-month/202 days (JH) 207 days (HS)

Pay Grade: 103

Midpoint: $82,711 (JH) $84,758 (HS)

Salary determined by job-like experience.
