
Adapted Physical Education Teacher

Starting Salary: $52,918+ (based on experience)
We are seeking an adapted physical education teacher to join our team for the 26-27 school year. This position provides an excellent opportunity for a new professional to cut their teeth in adapted physical education with a really dynamic, experienced, and connected district wide team of APE and PE teachers. This position also provides an opportunity for an experienced adapted physical education teacher looking for increased opportunities to collaborate with physical education teachers to co-plan differentiated learning opportunities where all students can gain health benefits.
SUMMARY: Collaboratively plans, implements, and instructs physical activities for students who possess various disabilities in their general education physical education class. Coordinates community-based sport/recreational/social activities. Works with appropriate staff to provide the best possible environment and motor activities for students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Instructs individuals and groups in special education skill areas.
- Adapts equipment, rules, and skills to fit student's needs.
- Participates in the IEP (Individual Education Program) team process to develop, review, evaluate, and implement IEPs for students with disabilities.
- Plans, implements, reviews, and modifies curriculum to meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
- Responsible for informing regular physical education teacher of the IEP if applicable.
- Monitors and evaluates students work and progress and keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
- Maintains contact with PTs (physical therapists) and OTs (occupational therapists) who provide related programs with students.
- Provides programming for both inclusive activities and self-contained programs.
- Provides qualitative and quantitative feedback to students and parents, and participates in parent/teacher conferences and open houses.
- Establishes, maintains and modifies appropriate records, reports, and procedures.
- Maintains, secures, and orders physical education equipment and materials.
- Provides and coordinates community-based recreational activities for students, as appropriate.
- Coordinates scheduling building facilities as needed.
- Continues professional growth.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position supervises the following positions:
Supervises students and paraprofessionals.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in specially designed physical education.
COMMUNICATION AND LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, procedures, and regulations. Ability to writer reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, parents, administrators, and staff.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
ANALYTICAL AND REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret technical instructions in diagrammatic form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program, ability to plan and implement lesson plans based on district and building goals and the needs and abilities of the students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, parents, administrators, and community. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to use computers and other technology to accomplish job responsibilities.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES:
Possess and maintain or be eligible to hold a current Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction license in adaptive physical education, code 860. Must possess a valid driver's license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Shall complete a physical examination as required by Wisconsin Statute 118.25.
