
Human Resources Specialist
Job Description
STARTING WAGE: $26.06+ per hour (based on experience)
This position is full time, 8 hours per day, year round and comes with paid time off, paid benefits, paid vacation and is benefit eligible.
SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources, this position provides and performs comprehensive HR services for employees. Major responsibilities include coordination of recruitment/selection processing, employment services, handling of confidential and other employment records and completion and submission of internal and external reports.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Coordinates the job requisition process and hiring of new employees for assigned employee groups including, processing job requisitions, drafting and/or updating job descriptions, responding to applicant inquiries, verifying licensing and credential information, preparing offer letters and board approval documents.
- Maintains and updates HR systems databases (Skyward & AESOP) including, setting up new plan years, entering new pay matrixes, updating employee salary and wages, building various employee work calendars and tracking of certified staff professional development hours, and generating custom and ad hoc reports as needed.
- Responds to written and verbal inquiries from a variety of internal and external sources (e.g. teachers, administrators, etc.) for the purpose of resolving problems, providing information and/or referring to appropriate personnel and/or identifying the relevant issues and recommending solutions.
- Tracks, monitors, coordinates and files all employee-related documents (i.e. licenses and renewals, performance evaluations, etc.); communicates with employees and supervisors regarding outstanding documentation as needed.
- Maintains personnel records, employee evaluations, personnel transactions, EEO information and processes employee information including transfers, changes of status, leaves, resignations and retirements.
- Responds to data collection and compensation surveys as requested. Tracks and maintains applicable recruitment metrics and other staffing reports as needed.
- Ensures that payroll actions and docks are processed timely and accurately.
- Prepares and maintains federal, state, and district reports as required.
- Attends and participates in staff meetings and training activities; attends workshops, conferences, and classes to increase professional knowledge and skill.
- Assists with developing and maintaining current and accurate Human Resources policies and procedures.
- Assists with New Employee Orientation and other onboarding activities as necessary.
- Assists with benefits and wellness projects as necessary.
- Prepares front-desk break schedules and provides back-up for switchboard as needed.
- Learns, interprets, and applies pertinent employment federal, state, and local laws and regulations including administrative and departmental policies and procedures.
- Schedules and conducts exit interviews with employees leaving the district as needed.
- Proactively engages HR team when appropriate to team issues and seeks guidance.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Associate's degree or equivalent.
- Three to five years work experience in human resources.
COMMUNICATION AND LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing. Ability to appropriately communicate with staff at all levels and others including vendors, law enforcement and other agencies. Ability to interpret documents including, handbooks, district reporting forms, procedure manuals, and governmental regulations. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, staff, regulatory agencies. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from diverse groups of administrators, staff, substitutes, and the general public. Ability to effectively present information to staff and administrators. Ability to maintain confidentiality, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships adapting to changing priorities and working with frequent interruptions is required. Ability to work at a fast pace, when necessary, while maintaining a high level of professionalism in the resolution of employee issues.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
ANALYTICAL AND REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form. Skilled in identifying and resolving problems or situations requiring the understanding of HR principles and the exercise of good judgment
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Proficiency in the usage of accounting, database software, internet software, e- mail and word processing software. Ability to proficiently use the following programs strongly preferred: MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Publisher and Excel. Ability to type accurately and proficiently. Working knowledge of office software systems, including knowledge of HRIS including payroll systems and applicable HR/payroll processes.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and school board policies. Ability to meet deadlines and work independently. Ability to interpret and apply program or department information in making decisions or providing information to others. Must be flexible and able to change projects or priorities on a frequent basis.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear and operate a computer. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, such as boxes of computer paper. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
