Job Description
BAE Systems is seeking a Design Checking Specialist to support our work as a prime contractor on a high-profile U.S. Navy weapon system. Applicants should have knowledge of ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards, electrical and mechanical design principles, and possess the ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally. Candidates should have expertise in 3D modeling, assemblies, drawing detailing, creating draft features, skilled in problem-solving, attention to detail, and communication skills for working within engineering teams.
This position is responsible for developing and maintaining design requirements using PTC Creo 11.0. Design Specialist mut be willing to learn Bentley MicroStation. Candidates will support existing staff providing artifacts for distribution and support the lead drafter reviewing the work of junior drafters/modelers. Candidates will create and update 3D models, drawings, and assemblies based on customer requirements, specify materials used on models, create models out of rough sketches, develop standardized models of products, coordinate with other teams to ensure the model is correct, and communicate effectively and professionally.

Our organization has supported the U.S. Navy’s Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) continually since the program’s inception in the 1950s. SSP developed the first sea-based, underwater-launched Strategic Weapon System (SWS), a defense system that is truly critical to our national security. For more than six decades, SSP has maintained and upgraded this weapon system, and we have been there every step of the way. The sea-based SWS is the ultimate stealthy weapon system and is the first leg of the U.S. nuclear triad. With over 70% of our nation’s nuclear arsenal its importance for maintaining world peace cannot be overstated. The development of Columbia, the most advanced nuclear-powered, nuclear-armed submarine ever designed, as well the next D5LE2 weapon system is under way and will begin to be rolled out over the next decade.
