The mission of the Office of the Vice President for Research, Scholarship and Creative Endeavors (OVPR) is to foster the expansion of the scale, quality, and impact of scholarly endeavors at UT Austin. We are committed to building capacity, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, and lowering the barriers and burden involved in scientific and creative inquiry through the development of an investigator-focused infrastructure that supports the needs of UT Austin's research enterprise.

Purpose

Supports the daily operations of the OVPR by assisting with clerical and administrative tasks. We are seeking reliable, friendly students who are flexible and communicate clearly in both written and verbal settings. The ideal candidate will have a customer service mindset, demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality, and show initiative in a collaborative office environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer‑focused front desk support for OVPR reception areas, including answering phone calls and emails and greeting visitors with a friendly, professional demeanor.

  • Perform clerical duties such as filing, scanning, photocopying, data entry, tracking office supply inventory, and completing other related tasks.

  • Maintain an organized and tidy workspace and assist with light cleaning duties, including vacuuming, dusting, and watering plants.

  • Assist with meeting setup and cleanup as needed.

  • Use basic functions in Microsoft Word, Adobe, and Excel to create and edit general office documents.

  • Submit parking requests and process parking validations.

  • Pick up and deliver materials across campus.

  • Assist with projects and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated customer service skills with a friendly and professional attitude.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Basic computer proficiency, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Reliable, punctual, and eager to learn.

  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.

  • Professional demeanor, including appropriate workplace attire.

  • Current undergraduate at UT Austin enrolled/registered for the current semester, and in good academic standing.

  • Financial aid work-study recipient.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a professional office environment.

  • Experience answering telephones and using standard office equipment.

  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to take initiative and manage tasks with minimal supervision.

  • Familiarity with university resources and campus operations.

  • Prior experience in a customer service position.

Salary Range 
$15.00 Hourly

Working Conditions

  • May work around standard office conditions

  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

  • Light lifting and moving

Work Shift

  • Must be available to work 15-19 hours per week.

  • Flexible work hours between Monday through Friday 8am-5pm, based on students' class schedule.
