POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Financial and Regulatory Reporting Analyst is a key contributor within the Finance team, responsible for the preparation, analysis, and delivery of the Bank’s external financial reporting, MD&A disclosures, and regulatory filings. This role plays an important part in ensuring the integrity of the Bank’s financial reporting framework while supporting the evolution of reporting processes, controls, and regulatory infrastructure as HomeEquity Bank transitions toward a Category 1 bank. This role offers the opportunity to gain deep exposure to banking regulatory frameworks, capital reporting, and financial disclosure in a growing federally regulated financial institution.
The Senior Financial and Regulatory Reporting Analyst reports directly to the Director, Financial and Regulatory Reporting. The position collaborates closely with various stakeholders, including Finance leadership, Treasury, Compliance and Risk, and plays an active role in enhancing the accuracy, efficiency, and reliability of the Bank’s financial reporting environment.
MAJOR ELEMENTS OF THE ROLE
Financial Reporting
Deliver quarterly and annual IFRS compliant financial statements for multiple entities in Workiva
Perform detailed analytical review of financial results and underlying general ledger activity to ensure accuracy, completeness, and integrity of external disclosures
Own the Workiva reporting environment, including document architecture, data linkages, and controls supporting the integrity of financial disclosures
Support the automation and integration of financial data flows between Workday and Workiva to enhance the efficiency, accuracy, and reliability of financial and regulatory reporting
Manage the preparation and analysis of complex accounting entries supporting the month-end close
Prepare cashflow and other supporting schedules for financial statements and MD&A disclosures
Consolidate and prepare support schedules for the monthly reporting package for senior leadership
Design and enhance custom reporting within Workday to support evolving financial reporting and management insight requirements
Prepare analysis and insights supporting reporting to the CFO, senior leadership, and Audit Committee, helping explain the drivers behind financial and regulatory results
Support the implementation of new accounting standards and assess their impact on financial reporting and disclosures
Assess and implement Workday updates and new releases that impact financial reporting to ensure system functionality aligns with accounting and reporting requirements
Coordinate with internal and external auditors to support audit procedures, including responding to information requests and preparing supporting documentation for financial statements
Regulatory Reporting
Own the preparation and submission of OSFI regulatory filings, including BCAR and Leverage Ratio returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with prescribed filing deadlines
Prepare CDIC returns, Statistics Canada and other regulatory returns as required
Lead the preparation and enhancement of quarterly Basel Pillar 3 and B-20 disclosure
Ensure compliance with regulatory reporting instructions, prudential standards, and evolving regulatory requirements
Analyze and communicate key drivers of changes in regulatory capital ratios, supporting internal understanding of capital impacts
Identify opportunities to enhance financial and regulatory reporting processes through automation, improved controls, and system enhancements
Coordinate with internal and external auditors to support audit procedures for regulatory filings
Partner with Treasury, Risk, and Finance leadership to assess the regulatory implications of new products, funding strategies, and business initiatives
Regulatory Transformation & Category 1 Readiness
Contribute to the development of the Bank’s enhanced financial and regulatory reporting framework as part of transition to a Category 1 bank
Participate in gap assessments and remediation initiatives related to regulatory reporting and disclosure
Enhance capital and liquidity reporting processes, documentation, and internal controls to meet heightened OSFI expectations
Support expansion of Pillar 3 disclosures and enhanced transparency requirements
Control and Compliance
Maintain robust documentation, controls and audit-ready workpapers supporting financial and regulatory reporting processes
Automate and enhance the 52-109 certification process
Perform reconciliations between general ledger accounts and regulatory reporting systems
Control testing as required
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Qualifications and Technical Expertise
Professional Designation, CPA (Certified Public Accountant)
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field
3-5+ years of experience in banking, financial services or public accounting
Experience interpreting OSFI guidelines (e.g. capital adequacy requirements) would be an asset
Strong knowledge of accounting standards (IFRS), principles and financial reporting
Familiarity with internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) frameworks and processes
Experience documenting processes
Experience with financial reporting software and ERP systems would be an asset
