Work Hours: 37.5 hours per week

 

Employment Type: Full Time - Permanent

Role and Starting Range: Finance Business Partner - CAD$58,000 - CAD$68,000

Full-time employees can join our group pension plan after two consecutive years of employment. Employees contribute 5% of their gross earnings per pay, which the Y, matches. After three consecutive years of service, participation in the YMCA pension plan becomes mandatory for full-time employees.

Role Overview: 

 

This is a hybrid role. Currently Tuesdays and Thursdays are in-person at our Chaplin Family YMCA location. Additional inperson days may be required at one of our locations for meetings and to support operational partnerships.

What will you do…

Our Finance Team is seeking a team member within our General Ledger group who will work closely with operational partners to provide meaningful financial insight. In this role, you will collaborate with operational leaders to understand their needs, identify the right information and reporting, and support a culture of financial literacy and datainformed decisionmaking.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

  • You will build strong, collaborative relationships with internal business leaders, pairing strong accounting fundamentals with business insight to support informed decisionmaking.
  • You will organize, develop, and present financial information to business leaders with respect to the assigned business units.
  • You will apply business insight to interpret transactions and translate financial information into meaningful recommendations.
  • You will lead the accurate monthly accounting close for business units, including the preparation and posting of journal entries, accruals, and allocation entries, along with budget variance analysis.
  • You will prepare special financial analysis and reports as required.
  • You will support the annual budget process.
  • You will be a key member in the external audit process.
  • You will prepare monthly or quarterly balance sheet reconciliations ensuring that our subsystems tie into our GL. 
  • You will review accounting processes and work in partnership with Finance leadership to recommend and support ongoing process improvements.
  • You will ensure that transactions are consistent with financial policies and procedures.
  • You will prepare reports to various level of governments in support of contracts and agreements.

 

What will you bring…

  • Post-secondary education in business, accounting or finance.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with or working towards an accounting designation.
  • 5 + years in an Accounting related function.
  • Robust knowledge of “Fund Accounting” concepts and experience working in the charitable sector.
  • Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of Excel
  • Expert knowledge of ERP systems
  • Demonstrated experience providing analysis from systems and providing concise and meaningful stories through the data. Able to manage systems and extract and present data and analysis to solve business problems.
  • Strong personal ethics and integrity. You always make an effort to do the right thing, and you’re comfortable managing sensitive information.
  • Consultative skills; the ability to build strong partnerships and to influence without authority, confidently, effectively, and collaboratively.
  • Well respected and able to establish credibility with internal stakeholders and external individuals. 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, a wide range of tasks and stakeholders, to multiple deadlines and commitments, while balancing diverse functional areas of focus.
  • Someone who will live out our Y’s values. 
  • Strong communicator with excellent written and verbal communications skills and the ability to easily connect and collaborate with diverse groups of people.
  • Strong continuous improvement mindset. 
  • Police records check required.
