Women�s Head Softball Coach
Highland Community College is accepting applications for a Women�s Head Softball Coach. This part-time seasonal position is responsible for the leadership, organization, and administration of the women�s softball program and reports to the Director, Athletics and Physical Education. The Women�s Head Softball Coach plays a key role in supporting student-athlete success, sportsmanship, and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Select, organize, and prepare a women�s softball team composed of Highland Community College students to compete with institutions of similar size and athletic philosophy.
- Actively recruit qualified student-athletes and promote participation in the softball program.
- Visit high schools within the college district annually to promote community college opportunities for prospective student-athletes.
- Assist student-athletes in transferring to four-year institutions to continue their academic and athletic careers.
- Work closely with the Director, Athletics and Physical Education in all aspects of the program, including scheduling, equipment, eligibility, supervision, contest management, tournament management, and public relations.
- Assist with scheduling conference and non-conference games, sectional and regional tournaments, and coordinate with the Athletic Director on the selection of officials for home games.
- Direct a summer softball camp for junior and senior high school students.
- Coordinate and manage a junior high softball tournament in the fall.
- Encourage and support student-athletes in making up academic work missed due to scheduled athletic events.
- Ensure proper care, use, and maintenance of softball equipment and the softball diamond.
- Assist in preparing and managing the budget for the women�s softball program.
- Assist in selecting a team captain and work closely with the captain to promote sportsmanship and positive conduct.
- Designate players eligible for awards, letters, and trophies.
- Accompany and supervise the team during practices, games, and travel to ensure appropriate conduct and positive representation of the College.
- Maintain accurate records of games and communicate results to the media, conference officials, and College administration.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director, Athletics and Physical Education.
What We�re Looking For
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor�s degree preferred.
- Demonstrated softball coaching ability required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively with college students.
- Knowledge of softball rules, coaching techniques, and diamond maintenance.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, administrators, and the community.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
Physical and Work Requirements
- Ability to push or lift up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to travel to off-campus sites.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and travel.
- Valid Driver�s License required.
Compensation for the part-time seasonal position is $10,000.
