Job Description

Employment Type:

Full time

Description:

Trinity Health Southeast Michigan (THSEMI) is expanding our Regional Radiation Safety Program! We are seeking a dedicated Health Physicist to join our collaborative, highly integrated team. In this newly expanded role, you will work closely alongside our Regional Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) and our Radiation Safety team members to support clinical services, including but not limited to Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and Radiation Oncology across our entire network. Because we operate under a unified regional NRC license, you will benefit from standard, streamlined practices and a strong support system across all our sites.

Although this position is formally posted for our Trinity Health Oakland expansion, the scope of your duties will be truly regional. We offer flexibility regarding where your primary office is based; however, this is a hands-on, primary on-site position that requires support to our teams in person and at times will require driving between our regional ministries. While there is some flexibility for occasional remote work, an active, on-site presence is essential to the success of this role.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
•    Supports the THSEMI Regional Radiation Safety Program and Administration to assure the safe use of radioactive materials and ionizing radiation.
•    Manages and coordinates occupational radiation monitoring for personnel, including dosimeter request reviews, badge issuance, unusual exposure investigations, and ALARA alert notifications.
•    Oversees the radiation producing equipment programs, which includes the registration of ionizing radiation producing equipment and monitoring annual compliance testing.
•    Assists the RSO in auditing the effectiveness of radiation safety programs across all departments and facilities to ensure routine compliance with regulatory requirements.
•    Acts as a knowledgeable liaison by providing consultation and guidance regarding the safe use of ionizing radiation to departments, employees, and patients.
•    Performs investigations of radiological hazards, medical events, or unusual exposures, identifies root causes, and ensures timely corrective actions are implemented.
•    Reviews processes for the receipt, opening, delivery, and transport of radioactive materials for full compliance.
•    Acts in the capacity of the RSO when the RSO is unavailable.
Required Education and Experience:
•    Bachelor's degree in health physics, medical physics, Science, Engineering, or a related discipline is required.
•    Master's degree is strongly preferred.
•    Minimum of 1 year of experience or training in a medical program of similar scope, involving the clinical use of radioactive materials and radiation producing machines, or a graduate degree in Health or Medical Physics.
Required Skills and Certifications:
•    Board certified or eligible for certification in Health Physics by the American Board of Health Physics (ABHP), or in Medical Physics by the American Board of Radiology (ABR).
•    Certification is preferred.
•    Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to operate a vehicle for traveling among regional Ministries.
•    Ability to function independently and maintain highly organized electronic and hard copy records to ensure compliance.
•    Strong command of applicable software programs, including Adobe Acrobat and the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook).
•    Excellent interpersonal skills to interact positively with staff, physicians, and the public regarding radiation exposure and regulatory policies.
