About the Role

The incumbent will work collaboratively with the Director of Orthopaedics in fulfilling the mission of the Hospital and the department. The primary role will be the day to day running of the Sarcoma section of the Department of Orthopaedics.

  • Ensure that collaborations between Orthopaedic Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Medical Oncology, Radiotherapy ,Department of Medical Imaging and Pathology deliver an integrated, patient centric Sarcoma service.

  • Facilitate the collaboration between the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and St. Vincent's Hospital Melbourne in providing State wide Sarcoma services

  • Provide clinical oversight and support for the Sarcoma Clinical Nurse.

  • Assist the Director of Orthopaedics in the Sarcoma unit strategic plan, to be integrated with the broader Cancer Services strategy, including the ongoing resource needs of the Sarcoma unit

  • Ensure leave is rostered fairly and that employees regularly take leave and do not accumulate excessive leave

  • Provide feedback to the Director of Orthopaedics in relation to problems or issues that impact on safety and clinical quality.

  • Actively manage individual and team performance to maximise patient care and minimise workplace problems and conflict

  • Provide leadership and direction in Sarcoma research including enhancing the profile, quantum and level of research and seeking external funding for research.

Your Contribution

  • Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons or equivalent

  • Full medical registration with AHPRA

  • Completion of annual CME through RACS, AOA or equivalent

Other essential requirements

  • Completed Sarcoma Fellowship or equivalent

  • Commitment to the values and health care philosophy of the Sisters of Charity and the St. Vincent’s Hospital Code of Conduct

  • Excellent skills and competencies as a clinician and good communication skills with patients, their families and colleagues

  • Leadership qualities including the ability to set clear individual/unit objectives commensurate with the corporate objectives

  • Commitment to continuous quality improvement

  • Teaching commitment and skills in the areas undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education

  • Research commitment and participation in research activities

About Orthopaedic Department

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary, surgically focused management of patients with muscle, bone, and joint disease. The Department has long been considered as one of the leaders in academic Orthopaedic and Sarcoma Surgery in Australia and has considerable links with the Bone & Soft Tissue Tumour Service at VCCC. The Department of Orthopaedics is accredited by AOA as a training hospital. The Department is engaged in research of international recognition and is affiliated with the University of Melbourne.
