Job Description:

Under the direction of the Kids Zone Coordinator and consistent with the Christian Mission of the YMCA, a Kids Zone Representative is responsible for supervising and leading activities to engage children in play and learning, while ensuring standards of health and safety are met. 

 

Responsibilities:

Lead educational, age-appropriate and Christian-valued activities for children ages 6 weeks-11 years

Maintain health, safety and cleanliness standards of Kids Zone

Provide superior customer service to members and their children

Implement assigned programming

Maintain accurate records relating to attendance

Provide care and supervision of children in Kids Zone with emphasis on overall safety and wellness

Communicate appropriately with other staff members in a positive manner

Attend staff meetings and complete all required trainings

Assist with other duties as assigned

 

Varying shifts 8 am to 12 pm Monday through Saturday, 4 to 8 pm Monday through Thursday, and 1 to 5 pm on Sundays. Location: William G. White Jr Family YMCA and the Robinhood Road Family YMCA.

Job Qualifications:

Minimum of 16 years of age

High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Prior experience working with children or in a related field preferred

Ability to work well with children of various ages and abilities

Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills

Ability to handle multiple tasks

Willingness to maintain a flexible schedule

Capable of working as a team player

Ability to maintain safe environment

Obtain ASHI (CPR) certification within 30 days of employment (training is provided)

 

Physical Requirements:

Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time

Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight

Must be able to lift and carry supplies weighing up to 20 pounds

Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time 

Requires bending, pulling, crouching, leaning, kneeling, and walking, pushing, climbing, and jumping

Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing in such a way as to be easily understood by children, staff and parents 

Visual and auditory ability to supervise and respond to critical situations with children 

 

Performance may be measured by:

The safety of all children in the assigned area

The feedback from participants, parents, and Y leadership

The pleasant environment and smooth operation of the Kids Zone program
