SUMMARY: The Safety Specialist develops and maintains compliance‑driven safety programs while ensuring accurate documentation and regulatory readiness. The role conducts audits, inspections, and incident investigations to identify hazards and prevent recurrence. Serving as a key liaison with regulatory agencies, the Safety Specialist supports emergency preparedness and PPE management. Through collaboration with leaders and employees, this position promotes a strong culture of workplace safety and accountability.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: other duties may be assigned. This position will be supporting a split day or PM (second) shift.
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies, procedures, and programs that meet OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate safety records, incident reports, and all other compliance documentation in both digital and physical formats.
- Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Serve as a point of contact for safety-related inquiries, inspections, and investigations from regulatory agencies.
- Partners with managers, supervisors, and team leads to promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability.
- Assist in incident investigations, root cause analyses, and follow-up actions to prevent recurrence.
- Support emergency preparedness planning, including drills, evacuation procedures, and crisis communication protocols.
- Assist in the selection and procurement of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure proper usage and maintenance.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, environmental, or related field preferred. 2 Years+ health and safety support related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Able to maintain calm and composure under pressure.
- Prior first aid experience preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents in the English language such as safety rules, safety records, and procedure manuals. Must be able to write routine reports and correspondence. Must be able to effectively present information before groups, within the organization. Bilingual skills in Spanish preferred.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must be able to make decisions on routine matters utilizing company policies and procedures and directions from upper management.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about the facility. Could be standing/walking on concrete floors for 10+ hours per day, 6 days per week. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
OTHER SKILLS: Proactive problem solver and adaptable to evolving situations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to wet, cold and/or humid conditions in both inside and outside environments. The noise level in the work environment is usually at a level where OSHA required hearing protection is required.
NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: The hours and days of work are established by departmental needs and at the discretion of management. Must be available to work as scheduled.
