Overview:

  • Part-timeContinuing position 0.5 FTE 

  • Salary HEW 5 + 17% Superannuation and Flexible Working Arrangements 

  • Based at the CBD, Brunswick or Bundoora campus, but may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the University 

 

About The Position 

 
The Technical Officer will deliver high-quality technical support and services to staff, students and external partners, enabling strong teaching, learning and commercial outcomes across the College of VE. Drawing on specialisedexpertise in Engineering, the Technical Officer will contribute to the effective operation of technical facilities, ensuring they are maintained to industry and educational best-practice standards.  

 

The role spans a broad range of activities, equipment and processes, supporting the safe, efficient and consistent use of all technical spaces. 

Must have experience with

  • Centre Lathes preferably Dashin Champion and Charles Lathes

  • Vertical milling machines preferably M3 and M4

  • MIG and TIG welding

  • Practical workshop experience

Right applicant must hold qualification in either Mechanical Engineering, fitting and turning/ machinist or boiler making 

 

To be successful in this position, you’ll have:  

 

  • Proven technical knowledge and expertise in Engineering and associated equipment. 

  • Demonstrated experience in maintaining technical Workshops and equipment or equivalent industry experience, including coordinating maintenance of equipment.  

  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of HSW and OHS legislation and regulations (use, storage, handling). Particularly in regard to technical Workshops and equipment.  

  • High level communication skills, with a proven ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds.  

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver flexible solutions to technical problems, preferably within an educational context.  

  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility and initiative, by working independently and with limited direction, as well as effectively within a dynamic team environment with multiple and conflicting priorities and competing deadlines.  

  • Demonstrated ability to use information, communication and purchasing platforms effectively, including Microsoft Office software packages, web and email software. 

 

 

Please Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children and National Police Check.
