Job Description

Position Purpose

The Admissions Financial Counselor is responsible for the collection of payments from walk-in patients and discharges with known patient balances. The Financial Counselor will review all Self Pay patients for admission and short stay to prescreen for HRSI and determine deposit amounts required. They will also coordinate payment plans with patients who require payments plans for current accounts and outstanding balances. In addition, this person is responsible for the coordination of patient valuables in accordance with hospital policy.

Position Qualifications

Education:

Courses in accounting and computers with office practice experience recommended. Medical terminology is helpful.

Experience/Specialized Skills/Aptitudes

Two (2) years experience in a hospital business office desirable. Must have a working knowledge of hospital compliance standards for all payors. Must have a working knowledge of reimbursement methodology for Medicare, Medicaid and managed care payors. Must be proficient in Microsoft software including Excel. Numerical ability, supervisory skills, communication skills; expertise in insurance coverages, rules, regulations and billing procedures; attention to detail, clerical accuracy, phone manners, ability to teach/instruct, manual dexterity.
