Job Description

Babcock Australasia is seeking a Technical Writer to join our Australian Defence Force Ground Support Equipment (ADFGSE) contract. This is a full‑time, permanent role based in Adelaide, where you’ll be part of a high‑performing Technical Services Team supporting the strategic asset management of the ADF’s GSE fleet.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for developing, reviewing and maintaining high‑quality technical documentation that supports engineering, maintenance and operational activities for Ground Support Equipment assets. You’ll ensure accuracy and compliance across technical publications, manuals, work instructions and change documentation as updates are made to maintenance regimes, parts and engineering processes.

You’ll work closely with engineers, maintenance specialists and Defence stakeholders to gather information, translate complex technical detail into clear, user‑focused documentation, and support the continuous improvement of our publication standards. Your work will directly contribute to sustaining the fleet by ensuring that all technical information is current, consistent and aligned with Defence requirements.

As part of the Technical Services Team, you’ll also support our Service Desk rotation, assist with document control processes, and contribute to broader engineering lifecycle activities. This role offers the opportunity to deepen your expertise in Defence technical writing, collaborate with subject‑matter experts, and play a meaningful part in strengthening Australia’s Defence capability.

At Babcock, you’ll be joining a global organisation trusted to deliver critical services. We offer a collaborative environment, opportunities for growth, and the chance to make a real impact through accurate, high‑quality technical documentation that supports mission‑critical operations.

If you’re ready to apply your technical writing skills in a role that supports Australia’s Defence mission, we’d love to hear from you.

To be successful, you will bring:

  • Australian Citizen with a Defence security clearance (or the ability to obtain).
  • A technical vocational qualification/ certificate in a related discipline (Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical).
  • Experienced Technical Writer skilled in interpreting ILS and technical program requirements and developing clear, accurate documentation to support acquisition and sustainment activities.
  • An understanding of applicable ILS, engineering and maintenance toolsets and processes (e.g. PLM or MRP systems, Configuration Management, Engineering Lifecycle Management etc.)
  • Previous experience within a maintenance environment, preferably within the Defence industry.
