Job Description
To hire a candidate who will embrace the ISHCMC Aquatic program's philosophy of promoting high-quality, safety-conscious educational and recreational aquatic experiences that foster lifelong enjoyment of the water for a diverse range of ages, abilities, and interests. As a member of the ISHCMC Aquatics Program, the swimming coach/teacher/lifeguard is expected to: - Be a collaborative team player with an open-minded attitude - Demonstrate resourcefulness and strong communication skills when interacting with colleagues and all members of the ISHCMC community - Maintain a punctual and professional demeanor in all aspects of their duties Teaching Responsibilities - Lead / partially lead ( where applicable) curricular swimming classes and collaborate with PE teachers with PE curricular swimming classes. - Prepare lessons and execute swimming lessons in line with the curricular overview - Use the official teaching language appropriately and willingly communicate. - Record the assessments for the classes / groups being taught - Record attendances of students in cooperation with PE staff - Record absences, parental notes and medical notes in cooperation with PE staff - Perform formative and summative assessments and record the outcome. - Use differentiated teaching methods to include and cater for all learners - Use a variety of teaching and assessment methods - Take part in curricular planning meetings and contribute positively. - Inspect facilities as directed and report any unsafe conditions or equipment. - Arrange set up and clearing of equipment for swim classes and school related events. - Ensure safety standards are maintained at poolside and records necessary. - Perform first aid or rescue techniques where necessary. - During the school days, a teacher/coach act as lifeguard when the pool is being used for reasons other than physical education classes or during absences of a lifeguard. Coaching Responsibilities - Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator. - Interact and work effectively and cooperatively with all members of the learning community. - Contribute to cultural diversity for educational enrichment. - Show knowledge or the willingness to learn swim team specific software such as Team Unify and MM and TM program and help with necessary administrate work when needed. - Provide feedback and corrections: Observe swimmers during training, identify/assess areas for improvement, adjust the lesson/training plan accordingly and provide constructive feedback to enhance their development. - Motivate and encourage swimmers: Foster a positive and supportive environment that motivates swimmers to push their limits, persist through challenges, and achieve their goals. - Prepare swimmers for competitions: providing guidance on strategies, race preparation, and mental focus during training and at swim meets. - Track and record progress: Lead and prepare coaching sessions, based on the overview given by the Aquatic Director. - Keep a detailed record of swimmers' training sessions (written training plans, leaned onto the yearly overview), record attendance, performance data on the designated platforms. - Attend swimming competitions and provide support: Accompany the team to competitions, provide constructive feedback and encouragement before and after events directly to swimmers. - Promote sportsmanship and teamwork: Instill values of sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect among swimmers, creating a cohesive and supportive team environment. - Stay updated on swimming techniques and training methods by continuously researching, learning about swimming techniques, training methods, advancements in the swim sport. - Take part in the inhouse PD sessions, make use of possible external / online PD sessions to extend knowledge in swimming, teaching and coaching. - Actively participate in the overall and individual planning, evaluation, and improvement of the swimming program. - Take part in inset sessions on water safety/lifeguarding and rescue techniques and keeping the qualifications (certificates) in lifeguarding/water safety in date. - Lead and execute learn-to-swim lessons in PE classes and ASA’s by following the learn-to-swim curriculum framework. - Uphold basic communication with parents or guardians, forward any other communication directly to the Deputy or the Aquatic Director. - Attend swim team events such as meets, attend all coaches’ meetings as required and social events as part of a swim team event. - Arrange setting up and clearing of equipment for swim meets or swim classes and school related events. Additional Responsibilities - Oversee hygiene requirements and the safety of the pool, its locker rooms/shower areas of Primary or Secondary campus and report any concerns. - Liaise with team members, stakeholders, parents, etc. to support the Aquatics Director in supervising the team and daily tasks. - Perform other related duties assigned such as lifeguarding. Working hours and schedule Show flexibility in working hours which may include weekends, early mornings or late afternoon, night shifts, overnight trips or holidays (e.g. 4 weeks during the summer). The Aquatics Director may assign School Coaches with a specific working schedule to meet students’ needs. Annual evaluation for swimming coach The Swimming coach undergoes an annual evaluation, based on which the contract with him is renewed. The following topics/strategies are included (see Appendix 1). The ability to work in a team Technical and tactical knowledge of swimming. Planning, recording, leading and delivery of training (swim team)/lessons (curriculum) Provide a positive earning Environment have the ability to motivate and inspire swimmers. Record Student Progress Show Professionalism Show Communication and interpersonal skills. Involvement in team activities. Ability to handle emergency situations. Follow instruction/policies and procedures. Qualifications: - Bachelor degree in Education or sport - Teaching certificate/ Swimming Coach/ Lifeguard certificate - At least 3 years experience in teaching/coaching How to Apply: Complete this application before the closing date.
