We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our team. The selected candidate will primarily work at the Telespazio Fucino Space Center, with opportunities for short- to medium-term assignments at other company or customer operational and engineering sites. The role focuses on ensuring the effective technical and operational use of systems within the Space Mission Ground Segment, across telecommunications, remote sensing, and/or navigation domains.
Responsibilities
Analyze system and operational requirements
Design, develop, and maintain software solutions
Manage software configuration and version control
Perform unit, integration, and end-to-end (E2E) system testing and validation
Ensure first- and second-level preventive and corrective maintenance for both software and hardware
Contribute to project documentation (e.g., manuals, architecture diagrams, user stories, test documentation)
Participate in technical reviews, progress meetings, and project discussions
Critically analyze input project documentation and produce Review Item Discrepancies (RIDs) where needed
Study and assess system administration manuals to develop in-depth knowledge of ground subsystems
Operate and use ground segment components to support operational readiness and maintenance procedures
Develop, validate, and maintain operational scripts based on system needs
Monitor the functional status of Ground Segment subsystems
Support operations, maintenance, and engineering activities for Space Mission Ground Segment environments
Produce operational reports for different missions
Troubleshoot anomalies and support contingency management
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
Skills & Experience
At least 2 years of professional experience in structured environments, working on backend web projects
Strong knowledge of:
Java (7/8), Spring, and Spring Boot
RESTful service design and backend architectures
Microservices architecture
Experience with frontend technologies and UI development
Proficiency with:
Angular
HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, Bootstrap, JSON, Python
Experience with version control systems (Git, SVN)
Familiarity with build and DevOps tools (Maven, Jenkins, Kafka)
Knowledge of relational and non-relational databases
Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
Ability to use browser debugging tools
Understanding of UX/UI fundamentals
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Ability to work effectively in team environments
Availability for short-term assignments abroad
Additional Skills (Preferred)
Knowledge of:
System engineering standards for Space Mission Ground Segments
Cybersecurity concepts (technical and operational)
System administration and networking
Unix, Linux, and Windows operating systems
Shell scripting (bash, tcsh)
Familiarity with:
System maintenance (HW/SW)
PostgreSQL and/or Oracle databases
Cloud computing architectures
Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) concepts
English proficiency (minimum B1 level)
