
Special Education Teacher - Middle School Math
Job Description
Position Summary:
The Middle Grades Special Education Math Teacher provides targeted instruction and support to students with disabilities in grades 6�8, grounded in the school's RISE values: Respect, Integrity, Service, and Excellence. This role includes delivering standards-based, grade-level math instruction in both co-taught general education classrooms and small group settings, while also managing a caseload of students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The teacher collaborates with colleagues, families, and support staff to ensure students receive high-quality instruction aligned to grade-level standards and individualized goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction & Student Support
- Deliver standards-based math instruction in a co-teaching model alongside general education teacher
- Provide small group, targeted instruction to address skill gaps and support IEP goals, along with grade level standards
- Differentiate instruction through accommodations to ensure access to rigorous content
- Use data-driven practices and progress monitoring to guide instruction and interventions
- Foster an inclusive classroom culture that reflects respect for all learners and promotes confidence and independence
- Model excellence by maintaining high expectations and supporting students in reaching their full potential
IEP Case Management
- Serve as case manager for an assigned group of students with IEPs
- Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs in compliance with federal, state, and district guidelines
- Collect and analyze data on student progress toward IEP goals
- Schedule and facilitate IEP meetings, including annual reviews and re-evaluations
- Communicate regularly with families, demonstrating integrity through clear, honest, and timely communication
Collaboration
- Collaborate with general education teachers to plan, co-teach, and assess student learning
- Work with related service providers, paraprofessionals, and administrators to support student success
- Participate actively in professional learning communities (PLCs) and team meetings
- Demonstrate service by supporting colleagues, contributing to team goals, and advocating for student needs
Assessment & Compliance
- Administer and interpret formative and summative assessments
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with all special education timelines and procedures
- Uphold integrity by maintaining confidentiality and adhering to ethical and legal standards
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Mathematics, or related field (Master's preferred)
- Valid state certification in Special Education and Math, Middle Grades or Secondary
- Demonstrated knowledge of math content and best practices for teaching diverse learners
- Experience with co-teaching models and small group instruction preferred
- Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills
