About the Role

 

Join our team as a Counsellor/Advocate in the South Eastern Centre Against Sexual Assault and Family Violence (SECASA) team on a full time ongoing basis. This position is based in Dandenong but will work across the SECASA network and is open to Social Work and Psychology disciplines.

 

This role sits within the Children, Young People and Families Team (CYFT) and includes working with victim survivors of sexual assault (SAS) as well as responding to harmful sexual behaviours (HSB), requiring a nuanced, developmentally informed and family-inclusive approach.

 

As a Grade 2 Counsellor/Advocate you will provide high quality trauma focused counselling and therapeutic interventions, driven by frameworks of intersectionality, gender equality, anti-oppression, and a human rights-based approach. This position requires a truly collaborative approach, working with clients, their families and key agencies, within the scope of current legislation and professional guidelines. Key purpose of this role includes:

 

  • Providing counselling and therapeutic interventions to children, young people and families impacted by sexual assault, including victim survivor (SAS) work and harmful sexual behaviours (HSB) within the CYFT context
  • Undertaking evidence-based and trauma focussed assessments, case formulation, goal setting, counselling, and crisis response
  • Working collaboratively with clients and key agencies to advocate for, assess and respond to identified risk
  • Contributing to the After-Hours roster

 

About Us

 

The South Eastern Centre Against Sexual Assault and Family Violence (SECASA), is a program of Monash Health and has the responsibility in the Southern Region of the Department of Families, Fairness & Housing (DFFH) for:

 

  • The provision and development of effective services to victim/survivors and associated people affected by sexual assault and family violence.
  • The provision of assessment and treatment for adults, children and young people who have displayed harmful sexual behaviour.

  • The provision of public education and professional training on sexual assault and anti-violence issues

  • Social planning and processes related to reducing societal violence.

 

 

About You

 

 

You are a skilled Social Worker or Psychologist with demonstrated clinical experience supporting adults who have experienced complex trauma related to sexual assault and/or family violence. You bring well-developed crisis intervention skills, enabling you to provide compassionate, effective support to people in distress.

 

With experience working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and external agencies, you are committed to enhancing the wellbeing and safety of your clients. You possess excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, building trust and rapport with both colleagues and partner organisations to achieve positive outcomes.
