Opportunity Culture� Specialist - Duties and Responsibilities
Team Leadership
- In all actions, convey strong belief that all students can learn
- Ensure the district's and each school's adherence to the five Opportunity Culture� principles, which are strongly correlated with student growth
- Serve as the Opportunity Culture� resource for schools and help others learn Opportunity Culture� design, while developing own expertise with Public Impact� support
- Communicate the Opportunity Culture� vision and goals through a collaborative, team-oriented design process
- Hold others accountable for completing tasks and meeting deadlines necessary for results
- Build effective relationships with Opportunity Culture� educators, district departments, and district leadership
- Anticipate and respond appropriately to adjustments needed to keep Opportunity Culture� design and implementation progressing, if/when barriers arise
- Set and maintain rigorous selection criteria for Opportunity Culture� roles, with a focus on serving students whose needs historically have not been well met
- Build processes to ensure diversity in advanced roles and the teaching corps overall
- Regularly communicate Opportunity Culture� information and updates with schools and district
Planning and Preparation
- Support or lead Opportunity Culture� design sessions for teachers and district and school leaders, always including teachers
- Work with the Opportunity Culture� Director to adjust the Opportunity Culture� design/redesign process for local needs
- Ensure that Opportunity Culture� school plans align with the Opportunity Culture� principles and the district vision
- Working with the Opportunity Culture� Director, coordinate across all departments to ensure that quality of design and implementation improves education for students whose needs historically have not been well met
- Communicate Opportunity Culture� information to internal and external staff and stakeholders to successfully promote Opportunity Culture� design
Developing Others
- Set high expectations of achievement, with ambitious and measurable goals, for all school leaders and teachers in Opportunity Culture� roles
- Lead and coach teachers and school leaders in the design process for Opportunity Culture� roles
- Ensure that the daily, job-embedded virtual coaching provided to Opportunity Culture� teachers aligns with relevant district training
- Working with the Opportunity Culture� Director, facilitate the training and support of all staff in Opportunity Culture� roles by providing professional learning, and lead the 1:1 coaching to MCL�? and MTRT�? educators, that capitalizes on their strengths and improves areas of development
Progress Monitoring
- Ensure that the district and each Opportunity Culture� school continue to maintain fidelity, through robust plans and implementation, to the Opportunity Culture� principles
- Use school excellence portal and coordinate with district departments to gather, analyze, and communicate Opportunity Culture� outcomes and fidelity of implementation, with support from Public Impact�
- Respond to data and feedback from educators in Opportunity Culture� roles to continuously improve practices that are barriers to Opportunity Culture� success
- Regularly complete visits with Opportunity Culture� schools to gather observational data on Opportunity Culture� implementation and coaching of all in leadership roles
- Hold principals and teachers accountable for ambitious, measurable standards of academic achievement and instructional excellence
- Improve using data from Public Impact� about the district's performance compared to other Opportunity Culture� districts, and reasons for strengths/weaknesses
Professional Responsibilities
- Advocate for equitable student access to excellent teachers, especially for students whose needs have historically not been well met
- Be consistently oriented toward acting on what is best for students and their teachers, and lead others in that orientation

Supervisory Duties and Responsibilities
- Promotes and encourages teamwork, collaboration, innovation, creativity and commitment to continuous improvement through effective leadership skills and practices, to develop a team of engaged employees committed to achieving individual, team, and organizational goals and objectives.
- Manages and supervises the employees in the work unit, providing needed and appropriate support to each direct report in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and with Carlsbad Municipal Schools policies and procedures, work rules and guidelines.
- Upholds and enforces all Carlsbad Municipal Schools policies protocols, work rules and SOPs to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and applicable standards.
- Leads, directs, and supervises reporting personnel including work procedures, workloads, and work schedules by directing the workflow in such a manner as to promote productive efficiency of employees.
- Collaborates with direct reports to identify their professional development needs; and actively invests time in coaching and developing them and providing other resources to help them to grow and develop skills and knowledge, and to improve performance and productivity.
- Promptly addresses performance, conduct and/or behavior problems collaboratively with direct reports to correct problems; properly documenting corrective action, performance improvement plans, and progressive corrective action/discipline.
- Ensures a safe working environment in the assigned area, and ensures compliance with applicable OSHA and other laws, regulations and work rules concerning environmental safety and health of employees.
General Duties and Responsibilities
- Works collaboratively, cooperatively, and in coordination with fellow team members and with others in the organization, treats them with respect, courtesy, and consideration, and shows understanding and the appropriate support of other team members to help get the job done.
- Provides assistance, information, guidance, and resources to students, colleagues and stakeholders; treats them in a friendly manner with professionalism, helpfulness, respect, courtesy, and consideration at all times regardless of circumstances.
- Maintains regular, dependable attendance and punctuality, and physical or virtual presence as may be required at the assigned worksite
- Complies with and actively supports all applicable workplace environmental health and safety policies, work rules, and practices, giving maximum effort to performing job functions in a manner that protects the health and safety of the employee data, and /or sensitive information, and an essential job duty is the maintenance of strict confidentiality of such information in accordance with Carlsbad Municipal Schools policy, and federal/state/local laws and regulations (e.g., HIPAA, FERPA, etc.).
- Performs other duties as assigned and which are deemed necessary or desirable by the building principal or the Superintendent.
Education and Experience Required
1. Master's Degree from an accredited college.
2. Valid New Mexico teaching license.
4. Served on an Opportunity Culture� campus.
5. Must be able to pass employment verification.
6. Knowledge of Opportunity Culture� landscape.
7. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
