Job Description

Job Summary:

The Health Information Systems Manager is responsible for the oversight, optimization, and strategic use of Journey Mental Health Center’s electronic health record (EHR) system and related clinical applications. This role serves as the primary liaison between the organization and IT service providers, ensuring system reliability, data integrity, regulatory compliance, and effective user support.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • EHR & Systems Management
    • Administer, maintain, and optimize the EHR system, including configuration, updates, and enhancements
    • Monitor system performance and ensure reliability, availability, and efficiency
    • Partner with clinical and administrative teams to identify and implement opportunities to improve EHR functionality and clinical workflows
    • Coordinate system upgrades, patches, and downtime procedures
  • Data Management & Reporting
  • Oversee EHR data collection, validation, and reporting capabilities
  • Ensure timely, accurate reporting for contracts, grants, and organizational decision-making
  • Analyze data to identify trends, performance indicators, and opportunities for improvement
  • Review and validate reports, dashboards, and data outputs for accuracy and completeness
  • IT Vendor & Systems Coordination
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for IT vendors and service providers
    • Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and service-level expectations
    • Coordinate issue resolution, system support, and infrastructure needs with external partners
  • User Support & Training
    • Oversee training and ongoing support for clinical and administrative staff
    • Promote best practices in EHR usage and data entry
    • Collaborate with teams to improve system adoption and efficiency
  • Compliance & Security
    • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and applicable federal and state regulations
    • Maintain data integrity, confidentiality, and system security standards
    • Support audits and regulatory reporting requirements
  • Leadership & Administration
    • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate department staff
    • Participate in organizational meetings, committees, and strategic initiatives
    • Manage multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic environment

ESSENTIAL

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management, Statistics, or a related field

Experience

  • Minimum 5 year of experience configuring and supporting electronic health record systems
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in data analysis, reporting, and performance measurement
  • Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience
  • Strong knowledge of data models, database design, and data analysis techniques
  • Experience with reporting tools (e.g., Business Objects), databases (SQL) and data processing frameworks (ETL)
  • Proficiency in tools such as Excel, SPSS, SAS, or similar statistical software
  • Familiarity with programming or scripting languages (e.g., SQL, XML, JavaScript)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to collect, organize, analyze, present, and train on complex data
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Streamline/SmartCare EHR or similar EHR
  • Experience in behavioral health or health care settings
  • Project management experience

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and perform light lifting
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, including computers and phones
  • Occasional driving may be required

 

Working Conditions

  • On-site or hybrid work environment
  • Ability to be on-site within 60 minutes
  • Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required based on organizational needs
