 Data Analyst III (Data Management) 

This position performs moderately complex (journey-level) data analysis and data research for the Financial Regulation Division (FRD). Work involves data analysis of companies’ financials and developing practical systems used by financial staff in solvency monitoring. Develops, updates, and enhances data visualizations and interactive dashboards using Data Visualization Tools. Works in partnership with Data Management Office staff to provide excellent support to staff. Works under general supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. 

This position: 

  • Uses data visualization tools to develop, design, and maintain moderately complex visualizations and reports. 

  • Uses SQL (Structured Query Language) or other query languages to load and compile data from a variety of sources into operational databases. 

  • Creates ad hoc reports using data visualization tools.  

  • Serves as a Customer Service Requests (CSR) Liaison to submit special requests from FRD to the ITS division. 

  • Maintains and updates webpages and creates or updates forms to fillable and accessible PDFs. 

  • Completes special projects. 

  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

This position requires:  

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in data science, business analytics, computer science, computer information systems, management information systems, accounting, finance, mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related field is generally preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.  

  • 2 years’ experience in data analysis, research, compilation, and/or reporting work.  

Additional job details:  

This position requires regular work attendance. The position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule. If eligible, the employee must have a secure, dedicated workspace with reliable broadband internet service. The ideal candidate must be available for weekly meetings and group collaboration via Microsoft Teams and other applications during regular business hours. 

Preferences for this position include:  

  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI and Tableau.  

  • Experience using SQL (Structured Query Language) for data querying and analysis.  

This position requires demonstrated knowledge of: 

  • State laws, rules, procedures, and regulations relevant to job requirements. 

  • Using filters, parameters, and calculated fields in Data Visualization Tools.  

  • Writing and performing queries, extracting, blending and joining disparate datasets using SQL.  

  • Business terminology, spelling, grammar, arithmetic, personal computers.  

  • Office practices and procedures.  

This position requires demonstrated skill in: 

  • Problem solving and critical thinking. 

  • Using Microsoft Office software applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint.  

  • Using personal computers sufficient to enter and extract data from related systems and programs, such as Centralized Accounting Payroll and Personnel (CAPPS) and other systems required to perform the job. 

  • Using filters, parameters, and calculated fields in Data Visualization Tools. 

  • Writing and performing queries, extracting, blending and joining disparate datasets using SQL. 

  • Business terminology, spelling, grammar, arithmetic, personal computers. 

  • Office practices and procedures. 

  • Evaluating and translating large amounts of data.  

  • Planning and decision making.
