About the Role:
The Vice President, Tax is a senior leadership role responsible for developing and executing the company’s global tax strategy. This position ensures compliance with all tax regulations while optimizing the organization’s tax position, supporting business growth, and minimizing risk. The VP, Tax partners closely with executive leadership, finance, legal, and external advisors.
Key Responsibilities:
Tax Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and lead the company’s overall tax strategy aligned with business objectives
- Monitor and interpret changes in tax legislation and assess impact on the organization
Compliance & Reporting
- Oversee all aspects of global tax compliance (Direct/Indirect tax and transfer pricing)
- Ensure accurate and timely tax reporting (ASC 740 / IFRS equivalent) and disclosures
Tax Authority Engagement, Audits & Controversy
- Serve as the primary executive interface with tax authorities across multiple jurisdictions
- Lead and manage large, complex tax audits, examinations, and disputes
- Partner with external advisors and legal counsel on high-stakes tax controversies
Planning & Optimization
- Lead tax planning for domestic and international operations
- Oversee transfer pricing policies and intercompany transactions
Risk Management & Governance
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls over tax processes
- Ensure compliance with SOX and other regulatory requirements
Team Leadership
- Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing tax team
- Manage external advisors, consultants, and auditors
- Foster cross-functional collaboration with finance, legal, treasury, and operations
About you:
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s preferred)
CPA, or advanced tax certification strongly preferred
20+ years of progressive tax experience, including leadership roles
Demonstrated experience leading large-scale tax audits and managing significant tax controversies with global tax authorities
Deep expertise in corporate tax, international tax, and transfer pricing
Experience in a multinational organization and/or public company environment
Key Skills & Competencies

Deep technical tax expertise across jurisdictions
Proven ability to lead high-stakes tax audits and controversy matters
Strong negotiation and dispute resolution skills
Executive presence and ability to influence senior stakeholders

Preferred Experience
Experience managing multi-jurisdictional audits and cross-border controversies
Track record of successfully resolving material tax disputes, minimizing financial risk
Experience with M&A transactions and integration
Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g. Oracle) and tax technologies

Location: NYC, Mountain View CA, and Tempe AZ (Onsite 3 days per week)
The annual base salary for this position is expected to be between $270,000 and $325,000. Base salary is one component of Gen's total compensation package, which includes 401(k) match, health insurance options, disability coverage, life insurance, and unlimited paid time off. Actual salaries will vary based on a candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and competencies related to the role.
