About the Role

The Food & Pharmaceutical Division operates a modern laboratory at Rydalmere, Sydney that is equipped with the latest in analytical technology.

The division is seeking an experienced Laboratory Technician to become a part of the Metals & Wet Chemistry team that strives to exceed customer expectations by delivering quality results on time and by maintaining strong relationships with their clients.

This is a full-time role, Monday to Friday 8:00AM to 4:15PM, however, we are happy to discuss what works best with the successful candidate.

Day to Day 

  • Completing routine laboratory testing within the Metals & Wet Chemistry team 
  • Performing wet chemistry techniques including titrations, Karl Fischer (KF), pH, UV-Vis, and TLC 
  • Assisting with ICP-MS and ICP-OES sample preparation and instrument operation 
  • Conducting analytical procedures in accordance with ALS Quality Work Instructions, including QA/QC requirements 
  • Raising anomalies in results, sample type, or sample matrix interferences to the Team Leader or Supervisor for investigation 
  • Identifying out-of-specification (OOS) results and initiating appropriate investigations in the ALS QMS 
  • Organising designated tasks to maximise daily efficiencies and ensure analyses are completed within timeframes set by the supervisor and relevant analysis standards 
  • Performing calculations required when conducting analytical preparations 
  • Calibrating equipment as required by the Section Team Leader
  • Controlling and managing consumable stock required for designated tasks 
  • Performing housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment 
  • Understanding and adhering to ALS HSE policies, reporting and rectifying any compliance concerns, unsafe practices, or environmental harm 
  • Participating in training and assisting other laboratory staff as required 

Essential Skills, Experience & Knowledge 

  • A Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Science (preferably Chemistry) or relevant laboratory experience 
  • Relevant laboratory experience, ideally within a pharmaceutical or analytical testing environment 
  • Basic knowledge or hands-on experience with ICP-MS and/or ICP-OES is desirable 
  • Experience with wet chemistry techniques such as titrations, Karl Fischer (KF), pH, UV-Vis, and TLC is highly regarded 
  • An understanding of GMP requirements is advantageous 
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow methods, SOPs, and directions closely 
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team 
  • Computer literacy; familiarity with LIMS is an advantage 
  • Excellent time management and the ability to maintain productivity under pressure
