In this position you play a critical role in ensuring health, safety, and environmental standards are upheld in Valmet's Automation Solutions group as well as lead HSE initiatives at customer locations. You will collaborate deeply with the local as well as global organizations, and take strong responsibility for achieving world-class HSE performance.

This position can be located in Beloit Wisconsin or Atlanta (Norcross) Georgia. Candidate must be living and authorized to work in the US, as this position is not eligible for domestic or international relocation or sponsorship.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Act as the HSE Manager for delivering HSE services and functional support to all Valmet operations in United States and Canada for Customer Sites and Automation locations.

  • HSE Responsibility between Three Business Areas (Customer Sites, Automation Solutions, Global Supply)

  • Coordinate and implement the Global/Area HSE processes and develop additional needed location specific HSE procedures.

  • Manage internal and external HSE issues, in the direction of the HSE Director, Automation, in the locations and communicate with relevant stakeholders. Assure the quality of the internally and externally shared local HSE-related documentation.

  • Identify HSE risks and opportunities and propose and communicate solutions to the stakeholders in the locations and for Customer Site Projects.

  • Drive Locations Annual HSE improvement plan for must-wins to HSE improvement in line with Global & Business Areas HSE Strategy, targets and initiatives.

  • Coordinate and facilitate local HSE related training programs for Valmet employees and external workers.

  • Assist managers in the conduct of HSE hazard and risk assessments for normal and abnormal operations as well as when operation changes are planned.

  • Lead incident investigation, root cause analyses and corrective action implementation for customer sites and automation BA in the region.

  • Co-ordinate regular environmental aspect and impact identification for local operations

  • Ensure local HSE compliance by local law register and by regular compliance evaluations as well as implementing an annual compliance calendar at the locations.

  • Plan and deliver local HSE communication to the locations.

  • Help Facilitate HSE Committees at the Automation Locations

  • Represent locations in the region HSE team and participate in associated workgroups, tasks and programs.

  • Manage customer information requests regarding HSE in United States.

  • Regularly analyze and assess the needs, gaps and opportunities in Locations HSE performance as input to reviews, target setting, plans and preventive initiatives and actions.

  • Monthly, quarterly and annual reporting on Locations HSE performance status.

  • Ensure regulatory, as well as Valmet HSE record-keeping and reporting requirements are met in the Locations.

  • Manage CSM environmental reporting database and lead locations reporting of environment KPI’s

  • Act as a Spotlight key user for HSE event, Risk and Audit management solution

  • Act as the point of contact for the GMS certification management in the location for ISO 14001 and 45001 including implementation of expansion roadmap, audit management and global learnings

  • Coordinate and perform internal and other HSE audits & inspections as per annual Valmet, Area and local planning in location & on project and service sites.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in HSE in a similar environment.

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in health & safety, environment, manufacturing or mechanical engineering.

  • Experience of driving continuous improvement activities.

  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management system standards and certifications. Work with other standards is merited.

  • Proficiency with local, state and federal safety/environmental regulations.

  • Good communication, teamwork and relationship building skills.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Teams.

  • Ability to travel 20% to other Valmet facilities and customer sites.

  • Several years’ experience in muti-cultural customer project and site HSE work.

  • Ability to travel 35% to other Valmet facilities and customer sites.
