Starting Pay: $20/hr
Position Overview
- Maintain the melting rate of the shaft furnace while ensuring correct oxygen content and molten metal temperature. Ensure that the holding furnace level is maintained at approximately ½ full. (3-5 tons) Maintain, clean, and repair furnace burners, tap hole, launders, slag vessel, holding furnace, pour pot, and other furnace-related equipment as required.
Essential Job Functions
- Performs routine check furnace burners, tap hole, spouts, launders, and holding furnace exit for blockage.
- Maintains all furnace related critical and in-process controls within specified ranges.
- Maintains oxygen content by using air addition manifold located in lower launder
- Calibrates CO analyzers at the beginning of the day shift operation and any other times when there is a question of possible malfunctioning
- Performs routine check lines, hoses, and associated equipment for air and gas leaks
- Diagnoses problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments
- Installs, starts up and shuts down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures for machine activation and shutdown and in line with OSHA requirements
- Maintains company-required performance and maintenance records for identified equipment
- Performs other related duties as required and assigned
Requirements
- High School diploma or G.E.D certificate
- Ability to read and write the English language
- Ability to climb in overhead structures, to work beneath machines and in close quarters performing analysis and repair work
- Exposed to high voltage electricity and excessive heat
- Ability to push, pull, or lift heavy objects and/or machine parts with or without assistance
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time
