Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating the daily operations of the School Age and Camp site/s. Responsible for the supervision of staff, coordinating activities and creating schedules. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Hires, supervises, schedules, and trains all staff and volunteers in assigned departments. Schedules staff using CYEDC approved scheduling platform. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
- Budget administration for all assigned departments.
- Coordinate activities that meet the emotional, social, physical, and cognitive development of each individual child.
- Maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all children on a daily basis; ensuring the site is well supervised and in good condition.
- Upon the start of each day, make sure all children on roster are accounted for. Make sure all children arrive to program. Check the absentee list and if a child is not there, call the parent/guardian or principal immediately to ensure the child is safe.
- Using positive guidance techniques outlined in the parent handbook, that incorporate the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility when working with children, families and coworkers.
- Establishing and maintaining positive and productive relationships with families, keeping parents/guardians well informed regarding the child’s growth and development, offering family resources and utilizing all communication resources.
- Maintaining all paperwork (staff files, children’s files, attendance log, accident/incident reports).
- Oversee staff schedule and keep track of all payroll hours.
- Attending all staff meetings and family events as instructed by the Director.
- Maintaining a professional appearance and attitude that reflects the YMCA at all times, upholding the policies outlined in the YMCA Personnel Policy handbook and Child Care Parent Handbook.
- Any other duties deemed necessary to ensure the success of the Community YMCA of Eastern Delaware County.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum age of 18.
- Minimum of AAS Degree including ECE, Elem. Ed, Child Dev., Special Ed., or Human Resource Field of Studies and 3 years of experience working with children.
- Certifications: Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR/AED and Pediatric First Aid.
- Strong Leadership and Communication Skills.
- Must like working with children.
- A commitment to continuous quality program improvements.
- Completion of required trainings.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Able to lift and carry 15-50 pounds
- Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to safely supervise children’s activities.
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards
related to the activity. - Must be able to see, hear, direct, and assist members, guests, and staff to ensure safety.
