Transportation Supervisor - Dispatch
Job Description
Summary of Position:
As a member of the logistics team serving in the capacity of Transportation Supervisor and Dispatch, you will be responsible for managing daily transportation operations. This role entails combining hands-on dispatching with the supervision of staff to ensure the provision of timely, safe, and efficient services. You will assist in overseeing drivers, managing scheduling and routing processes, addressing road emergencies, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and maintaining effective communication between staff and customers.
Responsibilities:
- Develops and modifies daily dispatch plans, schedules driver assignments, and ensures on-time performance for routes and shipments.
- Supervises dispatchers and drivers, including training, and manages daily coverage for attendance issues.
- Acts as primary radio/phone contact for drivers, managing emergency procedures, route adjustments, and customer service inquiries.
- Reports maintenance and repair needs for transportation vehicles and equipment to the Transportation Manager and local repair facilities.
- Schedule roadside service for vehicles when breakdowns occur.
- Ensures compliance with safety regulations (federal, state, and local), monitors driver safety, and handles accident investigations, and all renewals stay current (Insurance, Registrations, Medical, CDL).
- Utilizes transportation management software (TMS), maintains accurate records for vehicle/driver performance, and prepares reports on productivity.
- Assist the Transportation Manager with weekly driver schedules to ensure hours of service and efficiency of metrics are met.
- Assist in completing UCR, IFTA, and MCS-150 on an annual/quarterly,/Bi-annual basis.
- Ensure drivers are complying with U.S. DOT laws and regulations.
- Support the initiatives and guidelines outlined in “The Fortune Way’ and the Fortune handbook.
- Maintain strong relationships and communication links with all departments to facilitate an effective and positive work environment.
- Other duties assigned by your supervisor.
Minimum Requirements:
- Experience 2-5+ years in a transportation/logistics role
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills are required. Bilingual Spanish speaker preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with transportation systems and technology, including but not limited to: Samsara, XRS - Omnitracs, Descartes, E-Logs, SmartDrive, Trimble Fleet (PeopleNet), Transportation Management Systems (TMS).
- Technical Proficiency in PC skills, including Microsoft Office, ADP, and J.J. Keller.
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local fleet and safety regulatory requirements (DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, EPA, etc.)
- An analytical mindset and good problem-solving skills
- A combination of education and experience with the above requirements will also be considered to satisfy the minimum requirements.
