Full STEAM Ahead Instructor Positions Now Open
Dear Preservice Teacher,
The UWSP School of Education has posted a job notice for Full STEAM Ahead Instructor Positions this summer. We will be hiring up to five preservice teachers from either secondary or elementary programs to lead classes in our three-day program.
What is Full STEAM Ahead?
This program focuses on building the resiliency of elementary and middle-level students in STEAM content areas. We combine STEM content with Social Emotional Learning (SEL) principles to deliver engaging content that bolsters confidence and perseverance. All instruction is led by UWSP preservice teachers.
What else should I know?
Full STEAM Instructors work closely with UWSP STEM Education Faculty Mentors before teaching one STEM lesson. This will include discussing a task selected by your mentor, having time to modify the task, and receiving feedback on your lesson. Additionally, all preservice teachers will receive training on SEL principles and will be provided support to best integrate these practices into your STEM lesson.
What do I get if I do this?
Besides a great experience that will look good on your resume and an opportunity to collaboratively teach STEM content, you will also receive a stipend for your time.
This program will take place on the Cedric A. Vig Outdoor Classroom (CAVOC) in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. You will receive breakfast and lunch each day of training and while teaching. In addition, Every Instructor will receive $2,000 at the end of their teaching. Finally, all instructor candidates (those selected based on applications to interview for the position) will experience a full interview process similar to what you will experience when applying for your first teaching position. All candidates will receive feedback on their interview, regardless of whether selected or not.
When is this all happening?
Instructors will need to be available for training from June 8th-12th. The training will take place on the UW-Stevens Point main campus. Additionally, the Rhinelander program will take place from July 27th-31st. Housing will be provided by Rhinelander, and extra community-related activities will be provided by the district as well. Additional meetings may be required before and/or following these dates. The application process will be open until March 29th.
Who can apply?
- Must be a student in the School of Education at UW-Stevens Point
- Must have successfully completed a Mathematics or Science Teaching Methods Course
- 2.6 GPA or higher
- Will be eligible to teach grades K-8 (K-9 or 6-12 certifications are eligible for this opportunity)
What do I need to do to apply?
To apply for this position, you will need to complete the application. This will include providing:
Cover letter detailing your qualifications
Teaching resume documenting relevant experiences
Contact information for either a UWSP or a school district reference.
It is suggested that you complete all documents before beginning the application process. If you have any questions, please email Jesse Mossholder ([email protected]) or Emily Wahlquist ([email protected]).
