POSITION SUMMARY:
Instruct water aerobics classes in a safe, enjoyable and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following, other duties may be assigned:
- Lead energizing, fun, safe and educational classes.
- Instruct participants on effective workout methods by explaining proper techniques and demonstrating the exercises. Teach appropriate methods to strengthen specific methods.
- Ensure proper equipment is available and music is ready for each class.
- Build effective, authentic relationships with members; helping to build the connection with the YMCA.
- Share information on aquatics programming and subsequent schedules. As appropriate participants to other YMCA programs.
- Maintain accurate, complete and timely program records including but not limited to attendance sheets and accident/incident forms.
- Understand, communicate and consistently apply all safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
- Report any unsafe conditions/equipment to supervisor immediately.
- Attend all staff meetings and in-service trainings.
Child Protection Responsibilities:
- Adheres to policies related to boundaries with youth.
- Participates in required abuse risk management training.
- Reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.
- Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
- Adheres to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- CPR, First Aid and AED for the Professional Rescuer Certifications as well as Emergency Oxygen.
- YMCA Water Aerobic/Fitness certification or equivalent.
- At least one year of experience teaching water fitness classes preferred.
- Strong communication skills (verbal, written and interpersonal)
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
