Business Analyst

Our Technology team has 6 different departments: Information Security, Service Delivery, Business Enabling Systems, eCommerce & Marketing Technology, Data and Stores, Services & Supply Chain.

Whether it’s online or in our stores, the work that the IT team does is instrumental in PetSmart’s success. We have a strategic and actionable plan underway and are looking for associates who are just as excited about it as we are.

Associates at our Costa Rica office are eligible for hybrid work.

• How this role will make an impact:

  The Business Analyst role supports the software lifecycle of a product from strategic planning to tactical activities. This position will identify, define, analyze, prioritize, test, and refine requirements, and work with cross functional technology and business teams to deliver the final product. The role works directly with our various internal and external stakeholders across our business partners, technology teams, and external vendors to ensure successful translation of those requirements into solutions.

  KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures detailed business, functional and technical requirements are captured from appropriate teams and extracts requirements that may or may not be stated directly. Influences the technical solution.
  • Assists in the development of user stories and maintenance of the product backlog.
  • Creates technical and functional design specifications. Identifies gaps between solution design and application capabilities and determines alternatives.
  • Participates in regular dialogue with business partners to help understand and shape ongoing operational requirements, issues, and opportunities for improvement
  • Demonstrates strong analytical and problem-solving skills to propose technical solutions to complex business requirements
  • Develops and demonstrate strong understanding of applications and technology capabilities in support of various business processes
  • Works closely with theScrum Master, Architect, Product Management and Engineering to ensure solution meets business needs
  • Partners with quality assurance team to facilitate the creation and execution of test plans, test cases and automation scripts; establish and manage acceptance criteria, execute testing, participate in the identification of defects and works to resolution with Developers and business teams
  • Participates in regular agile ceremonies, product team meetings and contributes to discussion topics

  QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree - Math, Science, Computer Science, or Business preferred or equivalent work experience
  • Experience with Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in analyzing, designing, configuring and implementing complex applications and integrating software packages; played a significant role in supporting medium to large projects
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work with and through others to resolve issues
  • Customer-oriented, mission focused, and a quick learner
  • Work well within a team setup and helps build a positive team environment
  • Exposure to Retail industry; Preferably experience with both ‘brick and mortar’ and e-commerce
  • Highly quality conscious and result oriented
  • Extremely solid analytic and problem-solving skills. Able to distinguish technology problems from people or process problems
  • Understanding of APIs and modern technology architecture

  NICE TO HAVE:

  • Experience with JIRA and related product development software
  • Experience with Quality Assurance software
