Software Delivery & Operations Manager
Job Description
Job Title
Software Delivery & Operations ManagerJob Description
We’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys bringing order to the chaos of a complex software environment. Someone who gets real satisfaction from making things run more smoothly, not just pushing through individual projects, but improving how we plan, track, and deliver work across teams.
In this role, you’ll spend roughly half your time leading software projects hands-on, and the other half focused on making our delivery processes clearer, more predictable, and easier to work with for everyone involved. It’s a good mix of doing the work and improving how the work gets done.
This position is suitable for an experienced project or program manager who wants to continue making a real impact without the constant high-pressure grind of large-scale transformations or endless escalations.
What you’ll do
Leading software projects (about half of your time). You’ll take ownership of several software projects and make sure they’re well planned, transparent, and delivered. That means driving planning and execution, keeping stakeholders aligned, managing risks and dependencies, and ensuring things stay under control without unnecessary drama.
Improving flow and visibility across the portfolio. We need better oversight of everything that’s going on. You’ll help by setting up and maintaining a portfolio-level Kanban board, creating clearer visibility into priorities and dependencies, running alignment meetings across teams, and spotting (and fixing) bottlenecks so work moves more smoothly.
Strengthening our delivery operations. You’ll play a practical role in how we organize delivery day-to-day: supporting service and secondment planning, keeping an eye on budgets and resource allocation, following up on capacity needs, and identifying process gaps or areas where our governance could be simpler and more effective.
Supporting the innovation lab. We have a space where we turn ideas into something real. You’ll help coordinate demos and internal customer visits, figure out how different teams can best use the space, handle the practical stuff like scheduling and access, and make sure the lab gets used and delivers value.
What we’re looking for
Solid experience in software project/program management in complex environments
Someone who enjoys improving how work flows across teams
Comfortable working across multiple stakeholders and disciplines
Able to bring structure without overengineering
Pragmatic, hands-on, and comfortable switching between strategic and operational work
You’ve likely worked in more complex environments before and understand what good delivery and governance look like, but you also enjoy making things practical and workable in day-to-day reality.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (e.g., Engineering, Science, or similar analytical field)
8–15 years of experience in software project or program management
Experience working in a complex, multi-team software environment (e.g., multiple scrum teams, product development)
Proven experience with portfolio-level coordination or PMO / governance activities
Experience in improving delivery processes, ways of working, or quality systems
Hands-on experience managing software projects end-to-end (planning, budget, stakeholders, delivery)
Familiarity with Agile ways of working (e.g. Scrum, Kanban) and tools like Azure DevOps
Experience with resource planning, budget tracking, and cross-team alignment
Experience in a regulated or quality-driven environment (e.g., automotive, healthcare, or similar)
Personality / Profile
Gets energy from bringing structure and clarity to complex situations
Naturally thinks in flows, systems, and improvements, not just tasks
Calm, steady, and not easily pulled into chaos or urgency
Pragmatic and down-to-earth: prefers working solutions over perfect theory
Comfortable switching between big picture and practical details
Enjoys enabling others and making teams more effective
Not driven by status or hierarchy, but by making things work better
Takes ownership, but without ego, quietly effective
How we work together
This is an office based role, which means working in-person at least 3 days per week at the office.
