Compensation: $113,000 - $130,000 / year
Description
Key Responsibilities
- Performs professional technical work requiring experience and knowledge.
- Supervises and reviews the work of more junior engineers.
- Makes judgements and recommendations on technical matters within area of expertise.
- Providing strategic technical advice to internal and external clients.
- Uses advanced techniques in the modification or extension of theories and practices to complete assignments.
- Shares knowledge and acts as mentor to more junior staff within area of expertise.
- Adheres to quality, safety, and environmental procedures/standards.
- Liaises with clients, potential and current, for the purposes of service delivery, networking, and business development.
- May be responsible for developing proposals and presenting to clients.
- May act as Project Manager on a range of flood related projects, managing projects to scope and within time, cost and quality requirements.
- Demonstrates advanced knowledge of relevant software, systems and processes.
- May contribute to, or be the author of, technical papers.
- Maintains, or is working towards, Chartered or Certified status.
Undertakes other specific tasks including:
- Flood studies and floodplain risk management studies, site-specific studies
- Flood risk and impact assessments, flood emergency response plans and flood mitigation studies
- Report writing and review.
- Contribution to team engagement initiatives.
- Community Consultation.
- Maintain a Business Development Mindset - Stay aware of what clients need now; look for ways to grow client relationships; and keep a positive, growth-focused attitude.
- Participate in Customer Engagement - Build trust through your project work; offer solutions that solve real client problems; and represent BMT with professionalism.
- Support Proposal Development - Help write and review proposals; make sure proposals are clear and relevant; and work with others to create strong submissions.
- Collaborate Across the Business - Share what you learn from clients; use team knowledge to strengthen your work; and ask Work Winning Champions for help when needed.
- Provide Strategic Input - Share ideas that show BMT’s expertise; join planning sessions to grow client accounts; and help shape how we stand out from competitors.
- Be Accountable for Work Winning Actions - Keep track of your business development activities and share outcomes and actions; support team goals for winning work and growing revenue; and ask clients for feedback to help us improve.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other relevant area of study
- Experience in developing, calibrating and simulating flood models (TUFLOW software experience required)
- Minimum 5-7 years’ relevant experience post-graduation
- Working toward relevant registration with recognised science / engineering/ environmental body
- Strong organisation skills with strong attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Technical report writing (and review) skills.
- Flexible, team player
- Client focussed and commercially aware
- Demonstrable behaviours aligned with Level 4 of the BMT Career Map
- Demonstrable capability aligned with Level 4 of the appropriate Job Family Framework
- Experience working within a multi-site organisation
- Experience working within the engineering or resources sector in consulting capacity
- Experience in groundwater or water quality modelling
- Experience or interest in people management or leadership
- Driver’s license
