Job Summary: The SCADA Engineer II designs, develops, and supports enterprise SCADA solutions used to monitor and control industrial manufacturing processes. This role works independently on routine assignments and contributes to moderately complex system design, integration, and troubleshooting efforts. The Engineer applies growing technical expertise in SCADA platforms, HMI development, PLC integration, and industrial networking to improve system reliability and performance. This position impacts projects within their functional area, manages discrete workstreams or small projects, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to support operational and project objectives. Essential Duties: Functional Operations: Apply engineering principles to design, configure, and support SCADA and HMI systems for process monitoring and control Develop and modify SCADA/HMI applications to support production operations and improve usability Integrate PLCs, IIoT devices, and other control systems with SCADA platforms with minimal supervision Execute installation, configuration, and commissioning of SCADA system components Perform database development and management tasks, including tag structure design, data validation, and system organization Troubleshoot moderately complex SCADA, communication, and integration issues and implement effective solutions Manage discrete workstreams or small SCADA-related projects, including task planning, execution, and status tracking Performance Optimization & Continuous Improvement: Analyze system performance and identify opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency, and scalability Solve moderately complex technical problems with limited guidance Recommend enhancements to SCADA design standards, architectures, and development practices Support system testing, validation, and debugging to ensure high system performance and availability Contribute to the development and refinement of engineering documentation, standards, and best practices Training & Team Support: Share technical knowledge, lessons learned, and best practices with peers Provide guidance and informal mentorship to SCADA Engineer I team members Participate in training initiatives to expand technical capabilities and domain knowledge Cross-Functional Collaboration & Communication: Collaborate with cross-functional teams including controls engineers, IT, operations, and maintenance Communicate technical information clearly to stakeholders and team members Gather and interpret system requirements to support SCADA solution design and enhancements Use sound judgment to make decisions on moderately complex technical issues Quality, Safety, & Compliance: Apply established processes and standards to ensure compliance with company, safety, and industry requirements Support system validation, testing, and change management processes to ensure reliability and traceability Promote system reliability, operational safety, and data integrity through adherence to best practices Participate in audits, reviews, and continuous improvement efforts related to SCADA systems Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements: To ensure the health and safety in the workplace and for the protection of our employees, wearing PPE is a possibility and may include equipment such as a full Tyvek suit, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, face mask, bump cap, and a full hazmat suit that includes a respirator. Qualifications Requirements - Required and/or Preferred Education, Certifications, and Licenses: Required: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field Relevant work experience may be substituted for required education Preferred: Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field Industry certifications related to SCADA or automation (e.g., Inductive Automation Ignition Certification, ISA CAP) Essential Qualifications: 2+ years’ experience in SCADA, industrial automation, or manufacturing, with knowledge of SCADA architecture, HMI development, PLC integration, and control systems Familiarity with SCADA platforms (Ignition, FactoryTalk, WinCC), industrial protocols (OPC UA, Modbus, Ethernet/IP), and SQL databases Proficient in scripting/programming (Python, Java) with ability to troubleshoot moderately complex issues independently Able to manage tasks or small projects, prioritize effectively, and support system improvements Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills; detail-oriented with Microsoft Office proficiency Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English Alignment to Panasonic’s seven (7) core principles (contribution to society, fairness and honesty, cooperation and team spirit, untiring effort for improvement, courtesy and humility, adaptability, gratitude) Preferred Qualifications: 4+ years of experience in SCADA, industrial automation, or related engineering roles Experience in high-volume manufacturing or industrial environments such as battery, automotive, electronics, or energy sectors Experience leading small projects or SCADA workstreams Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and DevOps or deployment practices Experience with system architecture design or enterprise SCADA implementations Knowledge of cybersecurity principles related to industrial control systems Physical Demands: Physical Activities: Percentage of time (equaling 100%) during the normal workday the employee is required to: Sit: 20% Walk: 60% Stand: 20% Required Lifting and Carrying: Rare (<1%), Occasional (1-33%), Frequent (34-66%), Continuous (67-100%) For this position, the required frequency is: Up to 10 lbs.: Frequent Up to 20 lbs.: Occasional Up to 35 lbs.: Occasional Team-lift only (over 35 lbs.): Rare Benefits & Perks - What's In It For You: Panasonic Energy prioritizes total well-being and offers comprehensive benefits options to support physical, emotional, financial, social, and environmental health: Health Benefits – Offering medical, dental, vision, prescription plans, plus Health Savings Account and Flexible Spending Account options.
