JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Lab Duties - Using laboratory information system (LIS) perform log in and accessioning. Identify requisition and additional paperwork errors and sample inconsistencies. Communicate with appropriate staff when information is needed to successfully accession a test. Perform routine cleaning and maintenance procedures for laboratories. Assist in ordering and maintaining inventory of supplies and their storage. Ensure that work areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective and efficient environment for employees.
General Genetic Techniques - Follow established laboratory procedures and policies for all laboratory duties performed including, but not limited to DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis and routine analysis. Understand and apply appropriate policies and procedures for work flow, testing, and/or methodology. Perform dedicated duties on a timely basis. Appropriately document work as necessary.
Compliance - Understand and comply with applicable policies, guidelines, regulations, and/or accreditation standards. Document compliance as necessary. Maintain compliance with CCHMC Core Standards and code of ethics. May be responsible for ensuring that work areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective, and/or efficient environment for employees, patients, and/or families.
Quality Assurance/Quality Control - Perform routine quality control and quality assurance procedures to ensure maintenance of laboratory testing standards.
Professional Development - Sitting for certification exam within 2 years of service is strongly encouraged.
