The Writer and Content Producer position reports to the Director, Institutional Content and will produce written content for Emerson’s digital-first news platform, internal newsletters, and digital and print magazines, tailored to current and prospective students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, and industry influencers. They will stay up-to-date on the evolving media landscape and focus on audience-first storytelling that advances the college’s brand and reputation and increases community and connection.The Writer and Content Producer will create content covering topics including, but not limited to, campus announcements; student, faculty and alumni news and spotlights; faculty scholarship; and staff achievements for our internal newsletters, external news site, alumni magazine, and website. This is an important role that requires the ability to turn around content quickly and collaborate well with partners and stakeholders across the campus to tell stories that advance the college’s profile and strategic priorities.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Create content for our news page, newsletters and website.
- Create content for our alumni magazine and any supplemental publications.
- Collaborate with partners and stakeholders across the campus to produce engaging, impactful content that advances the strategic priorities of both the college and the department.
- Conduct research and interviews as necessary.
- Draft other written materials as required.
- Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS – Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to effectively perform job.
- Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, or a related field required.
- 3-5 years of professional writing experience required.
- Experience in a newsroom or a higher education setting preferred.

- Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail required
- Professional writing and journalism skills
- Proficiency in WordPress
- Ability to adapt writing style to suit the medium of communication and the audience
- Creativity, and the ability to develop ideas for articles
- Excellent research and social media skills
- Self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication skills and good interviewing skills
- Good collaborative skills

- This position is generally sedentary in nature, movement throughout the area is required from time to time.
