Job Description

Summary

The Academic Intervention Specialist is a vital member of our educational team, dedicated to directly supporting student success through hands-on academic and behavioral interventions while also fostering teacher development. This role involves actively working with students to address learning gaps, implement targeted interventions, and promote positive behaviors. By blending instructional coaching, direct intervention delivery, and professional development. The Academic Intervention Specialist enhances teaching strategies to meet individual student needs.

 Essential Functions

  • Collaborate with teachers to provide personalized, job-embedded coaching to refine teaching practices, curriculum design, and assessment strategies.
  • Observe classroom instruction, offer constructive feedback, and model effective teaching techniques.
  • Plan and lead professional development workshops focusing on pedagogy, curriculum alignment, and technology integration.
  • Provide targeted academic interventions for students struggling in specific subject areas, tailoring strategies to individual needs.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based behavioral interventions to support social-emotional development and appropriate behavior.
  • Assist educators in designing curriculum materials that align with state standards, district goals, and student needs.
  • Support teachers in integrating technology tools and platforms to enhance instruction and student engagement.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret academic and behavioral data to evaluate intervention effectiveness and guide instructional planning.
  • Collaborate with educators to develop action plans addressing identified learning gaps and areas for growth.
  • Support the creation of assessments to monitor student progress and inform teaching adjustments.
  • Facilitate grade-level or content-specific professional learning communities to foster collaboration and the sharing of best practices.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to provide updates on student progress and discuss intervention strategies.
  • Work with teachers and administrators to ensure consistent implementation of interventions and strategies across school settings.
  • Stay current with advancements in education research, coaching methodologies, and instructional practices.
  • Engage in continuous learning to improve coaching effectiveness and instructional support.

Travel Requirements: Limited travel to and from meetings may be required.

Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Bachelor's degree in Education, Master's Degree (MA) preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years previous teaching experience or school experience in teaching (preferred)
  • Knowledge of literacy interventions, assessment tools, and instructional strategies.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Valid Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card
  • Valid Arizona Teaching certificate 

Clearances

  • Measles/Mumps/Rubella Immunity/Vaccination
  • Valid I-9 form
  • AZ Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

Working Environment: The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands; the employee is frequently required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Terms of Employment 

  • Salary commensurate with education and experience for this position
  • 198 day new teacher contract - per work calendar for this position
  • 196 returning teacher contract - per the work calendar for this position

Evaluation: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the site administration in accordance with Governing Board Policy.
