Job Description Summary
A neuroscience nursing professional that provides critical care to neurovascular patients while supporting intricate endovascular procedures. Assess appropriate neuro-intervention for patients in the Neuro Endovascular Lab of Interventional Radiology according to Patient Care Services and Radiology Department philosophy, goals, policies, and procedures.
Job Description
Essential Functions
- Assists both the Neuro Endovascular Surgeon and the Vascular Surgeon during diagnostic and interventional procedures.
- Monitor vital signs, neurological status, insertion sites, and circulation during and after procedures.
- Observes and maintains records on condition, reaction, and progress of the patient.
- Anticipate patient needs and recognize potential complications, ensuring patient safety.
- Stays current on correct operation of medical devices and associated materials
- Uses the Electronic Medical record and accurately document patient information to insure the quality of patient care.
- Uses the computer system correctly in charging the correct patient account with correct exams and supplies.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform all exams in the department. Has taken the initiative to insure one’s own competency with each exam.
- Provides moderate sedation and aids in pain management during and post procedure.
- Documents nursing interventions and patient’s response on the patient’s record in accordance to established standards.
- When needed; provides ad-hoc nursing support in other radiology areas.
- Performs other duties as requested by primary manager that do not compromise moral code of conduct or protocols set in place for patient or employee safety

Qualifications
Minimum Education Required
- Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse (RN) Program;
Minimum Education Preferred
- Completion of an undergraduate degree.
- Stroke Certified Registered Nurse by American Board of Neuroscience Nursing (ABNN);
- Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse by American Board of Neuroscience Nursing (ABNN).
Minimum Experience Required
- Two (2) or more years of experience in an Emergency Department, Interventional Radiology, or Intensive Care Unit.
Minimum Experience Preferred
- Two (2) or more years of imaging experience;
- Experience with moderate sedation.
Required Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities
- Current RN license in the state.
- CPR within six (6) months of hire;
- ACLS within six (6) months of hire;
- Annual completion of competency requirements.
- Maintains standards of nursing care and practice of Patient Care Services.
- Acquire knowledge of neurovascular conditions, procedures, and patient care after procedures.
- A genuine interest in neurovascular health.
- Show empathy and compassion toward patients and their families.
- Dedication, continuous learning, and a commitment to excellent patient care.
- Encourages and promotes positive behaviors in co-workers.
- Works actively and cooperatively with co-workers as a team.
- Manages all information obtained with strict confidentiality to safeguard patient information from use by unauthorized personnel.
- Follows Southeast Health Center’s safety guidelines for self, patients, visitors, and employees.
- Follows Southeast Health Center’s infection prevention policies.
- Independently handles communications in a manner, which decreases conflict.
- Participates in working necessary overtime as well as flexing time as patient volume indicates.
- Call support to the hospital within thirty (30) minutes of notification;
- Basic typing and computer skills;
- Experience in operating personal computers in a Windows environment;
- Customer service oriented;
