Job Description

The Advanced Concepts and Technologies Group works throughout the technology development cycle including the development of architectures, concepts, algorithms, software, and hardware prototypes. The group is seeking a systems analyst to join our team, understand our key missions, and perform analyses on architectures and concepts needed to solve hard problems in the National Security space. The candidate will work as part of a team to develop physics- and engineering-based analysis tools for a wide variety of technologies related to sensors, electronic warfare systems, space systems, and crewed/uncrewed platforms. The candidate will use these tools to perform analyses of these systems and missions and convey the results of their analyses through technical briefings to government sponsors and other technical experts. While previous experience in these systems isn’t required, the successful candidate must be able to leverage their technical background to rapidly develop understanding across these technology areas as they learn from, and collaborate with, experts across the group and the Laboratory. In addition, to be successful in the role, the candidate will need to develop clear, concise briefings to place technical results in context and explain them to a wide range of audiences.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Independently add features and capabilities to the existing analysis tools, including the technical background to accurately model basic physics phenomenology in terms of RF propagation, electronic warfare, missile flyouts, sensors detection and similar effects
  • Work with the team to scope the analysis problem, understand what new features are required in the tools to support analysis, implement these features, and interpret the results
  • Along with the rest of the team, implement overall software architecture and quality control of the codebase, including how new features should best be added and tested/verified
  • Perform modeling runs needed for analysis and build tools that allow for efficient batch runs and analysis of results, as well as exploration and interpretation of results
  • Develop clear, compelling briefings based on analysis and present results to both internal and external/sponsor audiences

Education / Qualifications:

M.S. (or bachelor’s degree with at least 2-3 years of experience) in Physics, Engineering, Mathematics, Aeronautics/Astronautics, or related field; significant programming skills in any language (MATLAB, Python, Julia, C++, Java, etc.) and ability to solve complex problems. Self-motivated with a proven ability to address a broad range of problems both independently and collaboratively with highly dynamic, interdisciplinary teams.
