Job Description
POSITION: Special Education Classroom Paraprofessional � Extended School Year
June 30, 2026 through July 30, 2026
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (10.5 hours per week)
Special Education Paraprofessional
LOCATION: Preschool/Elementary Dodson Elementary School 8:15 am-11:45 am
Secondary - Liberty Middle School 7:45 am-11:15 am
*Students qualifying for ESY need consistency and limited transitions; therefore, it is expected that you plan to work all 15 days. Exceptions for illness may occur.
JOB GOAL:
Support students with disabilities (primarily students with Autism and Cognitive impairments) and the classroom teacher, or special education support personnel in the implementation of ESY services. This includes supporting students in instruction, socialization, daily living skills, behavior, communication, etc.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Demonstrate ability to work with parents, students and support personnel.
- Good communication skills.
- Good attendance record.
- Good organization skills.
- Ability to be self-directed.
- Ability to engage in problem identification and solving.
- Experience working with children with disabilities preferred.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assigned to work in special education classrooms with student(s) that range from moderate to severe disabilities.
- Functions under the direct supervision of special education teacher and has contact with special education professional in developing assignments, schedules, and to provide support services to the student.
- Performs those health care, instructional or other related assignments developed by a special education professional specific to the student.
- Assists the special education classroom teacher, special education support personnel in the implementation of health care, instructional programs, and to support behavior intervention plans and student behavior.
- Operates equipment used in the special education program for the production of printed or other audio-visual instructional materials; including computer technology and computer programs.
- Performs other tasks as directed and supervised by the special education professionals.
- Supports students in the classroom as well as activities, lunch/eating, recess, electives, bathroom, dressing, arrival/dismissal and any other aspects of the student's day.
- Completes both behavioral and instructional logs.
- Assists in monitoring established goals and objections for the student.
- Collects data on student(s).
- Medicaid recording and submission when required.
- Supervise students in all areas of the school environment.
- Bending, lifting, and overhead work required.
- Provides clinic/first aid/medication support to students.
- Assists and performs other tasks and duties as assigned.

SALARY: $25.00 per hour (SUMMER ONLY)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit. Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs such as boxes of books. The employee is directly responsible for safety, well-being, or work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Upon recommendation for employment, Section 1230g, as amended, of the Revised School Code requires all school employees to be electronically finger printed for the purpose of undergoing a criminal history background check. The fingerprinting is conducted by a third party and is at the expense of the applicant. Cost for fingerprinting is approximately $70.00.
