Description of Work
This position is assigned to Bertie Correctional Institution located in Windsor, NC. This position will be responsible for a caseload of offenders, which involves supportive counseling, conducting assessments, developing case plans, answering and following up on offender questions and problems, and making recommendations to the classification committee for a male minimum custody facility.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

salary range is $37,377 - $65,408.
Employees in this position assist in major dynamic programs or coordinate major or specialized programs for the rehabilitation of offenders such as offender work assignments, education, or recreation, as well as transition planning and coordinating. Employees in this class, plan and coordinate transition (re-entry) prior to parole or release into the community. Effective verbal and written communication with other staff, offenders, and the general public. Be capable of defending oneself against attack by violent persons. Work under stressful conditions caused by direct contact with incarcerated offenders; Conduct continuous visual and audio surveillance of assigned work area.
Perform crisis interventions and behavior data gathered from interviews, written documentation, personal observation and routine counseling to include suicide prevention. Employees also assist in major dynamic programs or coordinate major or specialized programs for the rehabilitation of offenders such as offender work assignments, education, or recreation, as well as transition planning and coordinating. Employees in this class, plan and coordinate transition (re-entry) prior to parole or release into the community. This position requires basic keyboarding skills and the ability to learn and use the OPUS computer system.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Knowledge of supportive counseling techniques.

The salary grade for this position is NC07. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase May result.
Minimum Education and Experience

Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Public Safety; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.EEO Statement
