CODE is looking for Freelance Lecturer - Orientation Semester (OS) for modules OS_02 – Introduction to Design (f/m/x).
Courses at CODE are delivered in-person on our campus in Berlin.
The Orientation Semester (OS) is the first semester all new undergraduate students arriving at CODE University of Applied Sciences are taken through. The aim of this semester is to support students in working in a Project-based Learning environment as well as to introduce them to the three-degree courses; Business Management and Entrepreneurship (BME), Digital Design and Innovation (DD&I) and Software Engineering (SE) and our Science, Technology and Society (STS) program which runs in parallel. Students will be working in self-directed, multidisciplinary teams – formed around a real-world problem that is synthesized into a driving project question to explore during the semester. There are five modules that make up the OS; OS_01 – Introduction to Software Engineering, OS_02 – Introduction to Design, OS_03 – Introduction to BME, OS_05 – Application of Project-based learning methods and STS_01 - STS Essentials, all of which have been designed (and sequenced) to work coherently and with the learning aims as outlined above for the semester.
Responsibilities:
Delivering workshop-based teaching and learning (7 x 3-hour workshops where content is already prepared but open to be iterated) which explores the full design process (the Double Diamond is used as a foundational starting point for students).
Providing weekly group tutorial availability to discuss project development in relation to the module’s qualification objectives and PBL principles.
Conducting group assessments and assessment feedback at the end of the module.
Teaching and learning workshops for the module OS_02 will be held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings during Calendar Weeks (CW) 39 (w/c Monday 21st September) and CW 42 (w/c Monday 12th October) and assessment presentations for the module will be on Friday 30th October.
Group tutorials (in person or remote) are to be offered weekly throughout CW 39 - 44.
Onboarding for external lecturers: TBD half day in August.
We’re looking for someone with the following skillset:
General knowledge on design processes (from design research through to design development and prototyping) and pedagogic approaches (ideally Project-based learning)
Practical experience with design development processes (end-to-end design process exploration), working with diverse teams in an educational context inc. developing constructive feedback to assist in project development and student development.
Experience as a workshop facilitator in the Higher Education context.
Excellent communication skills in English.

Having at least a Bachelor’s degree in Design / a Design related field or equivalent.
Being entitled to work as a freelancer in Germany.
Having a German bank account.
