Location: US:WI:MILWAUKEE at our WI DIAGNOSTIC LABORATORIES facility.

FTE: 0.001

*1.0 FTE is Full-Time, any position less than 1.0 FTE is Part-Time, and .001 FTE is Casual*

Standard Hours: 8

*Positions with an "FTE" (full time equivalency) of .8 - 1.0 are eligible for full-time medical, dental and vision benefits. Positions with an "FTE" of .5 - .799 are eligible for part-time pro-rated medical, dental and vision benefits*

Shift: 1st shift (Occasional weekday shifts; full days)

Summary:

Assists Anatomic Pathologists by participating in the examination, dissection and processing of tissue samples and by participating in gross autopsy direction.

Responsibilities:

1. Grosses in surgical specimens. Performs gross dissection examination and description of surgical specimens; preparation and submission of tissue for histologic procession, obtaining and submitting specimens for additional analytic procedures. Dictates gross description for inclusion in the Surgical Pathology Report.
2. Ability to identify specimens which may require special handling. Performs Kidney Biopsy triage, tissue bank collection and gross photography. Appropriately collects tissue for additional testing, such as cytometry, cytogenetics, electron microscopy, and other tests as necessary.
3. Reviews and summarizes medical records for pathologists. Utilizes Epic and Cerner to review records and histories when clinical information on requisition is insufficient.
4. Performs photography of gross specimens, including proper lighting, staging, and labeling.
5. Assists residents in gross dissection techniques and descriptions.
6. Downloads and organizes digital images in pathology library.
7. Performs other duties as needed.
8. Actively participates in training as needed.

Qualifications: 

1. Minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, and 

2. ASCP Certification as a Pathologists' Assistant (PA).
